I was winning 4-2 in the top of the 8th. I brought in my closer to pitch the 8th and 9th. He gave up 1 run in the 8th and 0 in the 9th. He should have received credit for the save.

Looks like you hit a weird bug. I hadn't seen that happen before where a save situation wasn't credited assuch.

Yeah this has hit me a lot of times. Pretty much the only time it gives me the save is if I strike out the last batter

The game fails to recognize two-inning saves as far as I've seen.

just recently, i got a save even tho it shouldnt of been one. my starter went 6 innings, we were up 12-2, and let my reliever go the last 3, and they credited him with a save.
it has happened a few times before to, as well on the PS2 when i had it.

That's a save situation, 3 innings of quality work.

Apparently, the computer must have marked the 1 ER allowed as a trigger to kill the save. I'll see if I can repeat the situation.

MaxD, even though the 3 innings doesn't matter, the fact that they were up by 10 would disqualify it from being a save - unless the lead only got that high after the reliever entered.

J-Gao - the score doesn't matter. They could be winning by 1 run, or 99; as long as you pitch 3 innings, you get a save. See the Save rules:

Quote:
He satisfies one of the following conditions:
1. He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning
2. He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat or on deck
3. He pitches for at least three innings

then why are complete games not saves?

I'm guessing it's meant to be pitches three innings after a pitcher is in line for the win, aka after the 5th inning is complete and the pitcher's team has the lead.

If my pitcher is having a good day by the end of the 5th I may give him the option of completing the game instead of bringing in a closer/reliever

Yeah, the 3 inning save is the "old school" save, before the era of one inning specialists. Doesn't matter what the score is. Wes Littleton got a save last year when Texas beat Baltimore 30-3, because he pitched the last 3-4 innings.

I haven't been able to credit a save eventhough I strike out the last batter.
