Is there a button that can be pressed to change which fielder you control?

Also, where can I find the button mapping for the classic controller?

Using the L button on the classic controller will change them

The L? Is that for the PS2? If so, then it's probably 1 or 2 for the Wii. I'll try to figure it out later.

He's talking about the L shoulder button on the Wii classic controller but I think your right about it being 1 or 2

Does anyone know for sure?? I feel like I've tried those buttons and it doesn't change the fielder you are controlling? This is a huge problem for me. There are many occasions where the computer has chosen for me to control the less than optimal fielder and I end up wasting an enormous amount of time trying to run to the ball with a fielder who isn't even closest to the ball. I feel like all baseball games always have a button that allows you to switch to the fielder closest to the ball. This game must have that functionality, no? It is just so weird because it doesn't state how to do this in the manual or in the in-game controller map. So frustrated!

The left shoulder button sounds right because on PS2 you press L1.

Do you own a game manual? It's explained in the fielding controls section.

I am using a Wii with the Nunchuk/Wiimote configuration so I don't have an L button. I've tripled checked the manual and I still don't see anything in there regarding what button to press to switch the fielder you are controlling.

Assuming the layout of the manual is the same, it's under Fielding Controls > Moving a fielder.

Man this has bothered me on the Wii as well. I'll always have that slow roller to second, and the AI gives me the 1B to control...and I automatically assume its the 2B, since that would actually make sense...and I end up moving my 1B all the way into foul territory before realizing whats going on.

The same thing sometimes with pitcher/catcher control, or center/corner outfielder. If someone figures this out, please post it.

EXACTLY!!! That is precisely what happens to me. It is so damn annoying. There must be a solution. Why would the PS2 version of the game have the ability to control that while the Wii wouldn't? Ugh.

It's still something that needs to be tweaked on the PS2. I have a hard time selecting a fielder, especially when the ball is in play. Here's a scenario:

There will be a pop fly in the infield b/w the catcher, pitcher and 1st baseman. I have control of the pitcher to catch the ball. As I approach the spot of where the ball will drop, the icon switches (without me pressing anything) to the catcher. Still having time to get to the drop spot of the ball, I use the catcher to get to the spot. Then the icon switches again and again and then the ball drops.

Has this happened to anyone of you Wii owners or even you PS2 owners? Please tell me that I'm not crazy!

I control my players using the L button on the classic controller. It's just difficult sometimes because it's a split second decision and if you have the wrong player then it's a roller heading to the outfield. However I've noticed this only really affects me if it's a fly ball to Left-Center or Right-Center field, or it's a popup near 1B or 3B and the player automatically protects the base. I just hit L until I get the player I want and make the catch, sometimes a diving one

Alright, there seems to be a general consensus that the L Button on the Classic Controller can be used to switch fielders but the question still remains:

How can you switch fielders using the Nunchuk/Wiimote setup?

Does anyone know the answer to this??

This absolutely happens to me all the time! It is terribly annoying and discouraging.

Maybe it's bugged and does not work on the other controller. OR, maybe it IS working but not the way you intend it to, leading you to conclude it isn't working.

BTW, did you find the section of the manual I mentioned ("Fielding controls" page, "Moving a fielder" section)? What does it say there?
