Any advice on stealing? I feel like the success of an attempted steal is completely random.

Also, when using the Wii classic controller what button makes a baserunner run faster?

This might be kinda obvious, but know who'll try to gun you down if you think about going for it. If I-Rod is behind the plate, you're more likely to get nailed than if it were a rookie back there or something. Pick your battles wisely, use bombs wisely, use the boost to get through, etcetera.

Other than knowing who the catcher is and having a good idea of their arm strength and accuracy, I honestly have no clue.

I saw some where that it was B+Z for Wii to run faster and L1+R1 for ps2. Not sure if that is alternating or together.

I don't know for the Wii, but on PS2, you just have to mash on all of the shoulder buttons, in no particular order, to run faster.

you should also know the "motion" of the pitcher, and -when- during the motion you should take off (else you'll go to early and ruin it).

I've stolen bases with ease with A-B players, C-D players require a bit more cunning (and a bigger lead), and typically only in a double steal situation.

How do you get a bigger lead?

before a steal attempt check the arm strength of the catcher and the run speed of your base runner if your run speed is higher than you will probably get away with it

Timing is everything. Hitting the steal (triangle on PS2, not sure on Wii) at the precise moment gives you a bigger jump than queuing a steal.

However if you tap the steal button twice before the pitcher delivers the runner takes a bigger lead. The trade off is you have a lesser chance of getting back to the bag if the pitcher decides to throw over. I've noticed pitchers throw over less when you're on second, so I usually use the trick to swipe third.

in addition, check the release ability of the pitcher as well as the current "form" of said pitcher, catcher, and potential base stealer. another good tip that was mentioned previously is to use the speed boost (mashing L and R buttons for PS2).

can anyone confirm being able to take a bigger lead? i think i read something about this before...

I played a game against the Reds, and the Reds catcher was a player I created myself in Success Mode and traded to the Reds. He had a D - arm strength, and he nailed about 5 of my runners who had A and B run speed. I sure would love to know the secret, too.

Stealing is far too easy, a big hitch in the game, in my opinion. I will succesfully steal 2nd 99.9% with any runner with at least C, and high percentages with D.

Leading off, repeatedly press UP on the D-Pad (for Wii) to get the bigger lead, and then just hold UP to steal. If he doesn't throw over, stolen base everytime.

Here's where the hitch lies, if he does throw over, as you're holding UP on the D-Pad, your runner will automatically take off. If you time it right, you can get back to 1B everytime right after the 1B throws to 2nd. 2B then throws to the cutoff, cutoff to 1B, but you're safe at the bag by then.

So i take the biggest lead possible, but when I get picked off, keep going to 2nd and retreat back to 1st just as the 1B throws to 2nd. It's too easy, and something I hope they fix in the next version.

Stealing 3rd is much more difficult for me. I can only do it with A's and sometimes B's. Also, if you have runners on 1st and 3rd, no matter how big your lead is, I only have a 50-50 shot, maybe less, of stealing 2nd. For some reason, when you have runners on the corners, the guy on 1st doesn't seem to take as big of a lead. I'm able to do this in Season mode with COMP fielding at powerful (the highest)
