I agree that not hitting for power is the way to go, but for for pitching I like to use Alvin for 5 innings and Robin the rest of the way. I feel the stats of the other guys are so pathetic they would get killed.

Alvin always leaves my team. What's the timeline key for him to stay?

I think if you let Toby be the captain Alvin will stay.

See, that's the thing. Toby becomes a captain by the game itself without giving me an option to choose. On the third year, the game asks me if I want to be the captain because Toby leaves... But this time I believe it's too late to become captain. And, of course, Alvin is gone by then.

The way it happens to me is, I am asked if I want to be captain, if I choose a challenge card, then I'll be the captain.

Winning the season finale helps keep him from bailing in year 2, allowing you time to either give up or take captaincy for yourself then.

If you use a CHALLENGE card when asked to be capt 2nd year, you'll get it, anything else defaults to Toby.

This may sound dumb, but usually there is one generic pitcher with a decent ( a 2 maybe) Change and decent velocity his fastball. You can get by for 2 or 3 innings with this guy without giving up a run. It might be worth letting that guy start if he is there, and let Alvin and Robin take the rest of the game.

I'll try that next time, but knowing my pitching skills I'll get creamed.

Bingo, and if you get the message "the skills of your teammates improve" you might even have 2-3 guys capable of holding their own.

You just need cunning and some luck to go with a little skill.

I just won the All-Star game with my Success Mode Pinch Hitter. I started a scrub pitcher, then put in Robin then Alvin to finish it off. 6-4 without Psychic Goggles!

Rookie Charm?

I find it a lot easier to win with a hitter, especially a powerful one - one who get at least 4 runs for the team off homers (with 4SFB from the Goggles and lock-on from the charm  ). Robin and Alvin are usually good enough to keep the opposing runs down to at the most of 6.

My best game was a 9-6 game. I was leading by more going into the ninth, but my pitcher was tired and nearly gave me a heart attack - finished with two runners on and Pujols at-bat. My own hitter - all B's and A's in fielding - went 5-5 with 5 home runs and 9 RBI. Beautiful.

Yeah I had the charm on. My PH wasn't a power hitter, he was a contact hitter (15 CON, 15 RUN SPD, every blue ability points can buy and then some) so no homers from him. Just consistently got Rex, Milton and myself on base, and hoped Peter and the rest could just run us in.

I was up in the bottom of the ninth and Ichiro and Jeter (or ARod, can't remember which) were on base, Pujols comes up with the big swing... oooh man. Alvin manages two strikes and I toss a Mirage Knuckler to the inside corner, he swings and pops it to the catcher. :)

I actually prefer those guys over Alvin or Robin. Those two guys lack definition on their breaking pitches. Even when you out-guess the hitters with goggles they can still make decent contact. I think a scrub with a LV2 curve or change has a higher strikeout capability.

I agree with odawali... if he thinks fastball, and your fastball/breaking pitches don't have the drop difference and the speed difference, he'll still hit it.

Goggles/No Goggles won't matter at that point, you need to attack aggressively and pitch in and tap corners.
