Has anyone ever tried this yet?

Create or use your six favorite players and build a team to try and win the series in sim mode?

Seems like it would be a pretty decent challenge, and I think I'm going to try it once I finish my center fielder and catcher.

I'm building a complete arrange team based off of success mode characters, named and appearances like my friends and family. So far I have one of each fielding position except CF, two Starting pitchers and one Reliever.

Now I just need to figure out the formula to unlocking Arrange Mode in the Shop...

It's pretty easy IMO to win the world series in this game. There are many ways you can take advantage of trading especially with the yankees. For example A-Rod for Willis and Miguel Cabrera. Liriano with the twins has tons of trade value. So long as you are willing to spend 100,000 plus on payroll you should be able to win every year.

OK, well does that go for the expansion teams also?

Because I was under the impression that playing those teams you get 6 open slots for success players, and the rest pretty much scrubs.

With no trade bait but the great success players which you need, what then?

I'm not sure how it all works though, I have been playing success mode since I got the game earlier this week.'

Already unlocked the bonus season points, maybe I shouldn't use them for more of a challenge.

And again, I was going to try to win pure sim mode. No player intervention. Gotta love GM style if it's your thing.

I'm also intrigued at the single player season mode. Seems kind of a cool novelty.

Usually you do get a great pitcher. One time I got an A control and A stamina guy. There should some fielders with B's in fielding, but obiously you probably won't win your first year. You get to go first in the draft and that is huge. You can get a RF/SS/3B with all B's in fielding again with no offense and a pretty good quality pitcher.

I'm a GM kind of guy and single player season mode isn't very appealing to me.

Well I see what you are talking about now. The team salary even with 4 success players is under 30k a year.

How do you unlock 6 players on an expansion team? Or is it only 4?

I haven't been able to find a way to increase the number of players you can register. I guess it's one of the disadvantages of playing with an expansion team.

I've been gradually adding success mode players to my expansion team; I've just released the worst of the scrubs to clear roster space. If you pick the low-salaried 1-yr contract guys, the penalty is pretty low. At the moment I've got 6 hitters and 3 pitchers from Success mode on the team, with another pitcher on the way. The starting fielders from the expansion team make nice bench dudes; the problem at present is the pitching staff, as I only have 2 starters and 2 relievers who are worth anything from the original roster. (I started it at Normal difficulty for most settings, except that the computer gets lock-on 5 for hitting and I have no lock on for myself, and I'm winning 70% of the time or so.)

The problem with that, besides the difficulty only on normal, is that when you register success players in season, you have to pay them like a free agents and that costs 13,000-15,000 per player.

You could probably use the arrange team option.

Well the four I'm using so far seem to be helping. I have one of my created pitchers, and The-F's Clemens pitcher. (lol, he is unreal). Along with my short stop and 1st basemen Lou Gehrig.

The rest of the team pitching wise is just horrible though. I'm going to need a good pitcher from the draft and work on my bullpen. I might create a few more and sign them on, but they do cost a ton. What I was thinking was creating cheaper players, but specialized to what my team needs.

And yes, I will eventually use arrange mode but I like the challenge of trying to win in the first 3 years or so by simming most if not all the games. Arrange mode seems difficult to as you have to watch the salaries even more at first, but I like sort of building the team through all the drafts and free agents.

Almost exactly how the D-Rays, Marlins, D-Backs, etc. felt when they were first ... except worse - because they were allowed to take top prospects from other teams. But close enough of a feeling. Note how those teams are most well-known for great farm systems as well as small budgets. That should perhaps be the equivalent of getting custom players.

This shortstop and Lou Gehrig guy (who? ) sound intriguing. Care to share?

If you just want to win the world series, a few success players is all it takes. I was thinking if you wanted to go undefeated and have unreal team stats like .40 era and 2000 SO and .400 team BA with 2000 runs. Really you could support a 150,000 payroll with the amount of points success players generate. I know at the end of 10 seasons I had 1,500,000 points left. You should save and reload on the draft to get better players. :) Arrange teams are easier because you can pick out cheap, good, and young players and register tons of success guys.

What do you by "the amount of points success players generate"? There's a special bonus for those players or something?

I always have trouble keeping the payroll down enough to finish the season in the positives. Of course, the Yankees aren't exactly the best team for payroll, but I still did trade Abreu, Giambi, Clemens, Pavano, Matsui, and Damon!

What's the luxury tax threshold?

Because of their ridiculous stats, they get tons of hits, no hitters, perfect games, etc. They usually fulfill the requirements for points. Well if you win the world series it's a 95,000 point bonus. I usually don't buy any practice equipment. That might be why. You've still got to trade A-rod, Jeter, and Farnsworth. Maybe Rivera if you can get good value for him.

You can find the luxury tax by going to F/A acquisition and doing C+right, left, down, or up I can't remember, but it will show you. It starts off around 150,000 if I remember correctly and it goes up each year.
