I believe it was mentioned elsewhere, but Arm Strength will help you get closer to you top speed. So a 15 (A) arm strength coupled with a 105 mph fastball will be a 105 mph fastball.

Well, usually it's thrown at 101-103 mph, as opposed to actually hitting that top speed of 105 (if that's what it is).

Only way to get 105 MPH:
Top motivation
Top arm str
105 top speed
Early innings.

It IS possible, but all of these circumstances have to be in affect.

Making Bob Gibson, I maxed out the arm strength to go with his 100MPH fastball. Don't know if it was because the only game I played from the beginning with him was the Superstars game, but even with top motivation he still only hit 99 once and 98 a handful of times (tapping A). Pitch speed without tapping was the typical 4-6 MPH below top speed. So I'm not sure if arm strength really does have much of an effect. But to be fair, the game mechanics in the Superstars game are likely a little off compared to Season Mode, and I haven't tried him there yet.

But on an unrelated note, I won my *first* ever Superstars game with him! 8) I'd never beaten them before, though I had tied once and lost close games several other times. I got them this time, though I did have to use the psychic goggles and rookie's charm. Normally I ditch the rookie's charm because of the XP hit it causes, but it's near impossible to beat the All-Stars without the lock-on batting benefit.

I can barely beat the World Gathering without the Charm and Goggles. Of course, the charm helps out with hitters more than pitchers.

goggles aren't that important, but you have to have rookie charm.

I think goggles are very important. They almost allow you to choose the pitch for the opposing team. Almost every time you pause the game, the pitch will switch. You can make them throw a simple 4SFB every single time. It's a lot easier to hit home runs off of.

i find it easier to hit pitches with a downward break for some reason.

Same here. And horizontal pitches. The movement is much more predictable. My least favorites are the 2-seamer and circle change because they have some diagonal movement.
