Does anyone have any tips on trading players (getting other teams to accept)? I'm trying to get rid of some high priced players and I have had several offers rejected that I thought were more than fair.

Any specific criteria that lead to successful trades?

I am just trynig this out myself...I am very disappointed with the trading mechanism...looking for a player is tough enough, but only one trade is possible at a time...and each one takes 5 days to review??

For success tho, there is a 'star-meter' at the top of the trade page; 5 stars is a lock, 1 star will never happen. the Computer rates the chance of a trade going through; you can add points on either side to get the stars up to 4 or 5 to ensure the trade will be accepted.

I am trying to trade Jack Wilson (pirates) to Boston for Dustin Pedroia and Kason Gabbard. For some reason Jack Wilson's pay is like 6800 or something...its waaay too much.

Yeah I've been using the Braves and Mike Hampton is 15,000 which is beyond ridiculous. I have noticed the star meter but there are a lot of times that I'll get a zero/1 star for a what I think is a fair trade.

If your trade doesn't work then save and reload. :D I noticed there is a huge emphasis on young versus old players. Also, try to get rid of huge contracts by trading for cash. Usually you will get a bit more than their yearly salary, but it will depend on the player.

Time of year comes into play as well. Teams seem less willing to do deals early in the season, and they don't seem to want to trade for free agents you've signed in the previous off season.

But yeah, the salaries are often well off what they should be, which makes pulling off some trades that would be absolute head scratchers in real life possible. In my first season playing St. Louis, I traded over the hill Edmonds and his 12,500 salary to Detroit for Granderson and Verlander (combined under 1000).

Yup, the trading needs some work though. Most of the new American baseball games have a trading block, or something you can do to get interest in players if you post them.

Feedback should be made to Konami on this issue as well as a few others, if they even release another version here.

I heard it isn't selling that well however which is sad really because it is a great baseball series.

Ditto with the 5 day review being too long. It really sucks.

I try to play all of my games so I can get maximum points so it can take hours before I get a trade accepted. It would of been nice if you had the chance to change how long they can review the trade.

Oh Yeah. Only being able to trade with 1 team at a time sucks as well.

I like to use the trade feature to dump big contracts that I made which I later decided weren't worth it. Glavine really sucks in this game. I guess he's just too old. :(

Trading's my favorite part of season mode - since I don't play most of the games...

I did an expansion team with created players and a dream draft. For the most part I only needed a few key players because I had success mode players to fill the voids.

I dumped that idea once I saw how well the draft was going for me:
My first three picks - Pujols, A-Rod (not very good in this game), and Chase Utley - imagine that for fantasy baseball! And I get the 2nd pick of the June draft.

After the initial lightning, I picked up expensive players who were good, just so I could trade them. I worked out well, too.

I ended trading mostly for points.

I just save before each trade and reload if it fails. I only go through if it is 4-5 stars.

If you have some guys that won't get anyone useful, trade them for points. I gutted the 500 point salaries of over a dozen late-round picks just for points and roster space.

Really?? I dominate with Glavine. I have actually gotten more stirkeouts with him than Pedro and Felix Hernandez.

Glavine had an era over 10.0 for me. :? Although I'm getting extremely suspicious now. For the first 2 years of my expansion team my pitchers with A stamina would get extremely tired *all* the time before the 4th inning. It created a mess for my relief pitchers. Once I hit the third year however they suddenly all started pitching complete games/etc. I'm in the 4th season now and I didn't even resign all my amazing pitchers so my salary is down in the low 30's now. Yet all my pitchers (who I did train up a bit over the years) have era's below 3.0 and I'm winning basically every game.

It just seems a bit weird that it would change so drastically so suddenly.

From experience: don't play favorites with your players. If you have guys that can be replaced and are expensive, however good they are, trade them and get valuable cheaper pieces.

I've now traded away Utley for Cano for points and Verlander. A-Rod and Pujols have been dumped for 30000 owner points, Adrian Gonzalez, and Carl Crawford. I love trading!

My current roster has a only a few players from the start - and just about all are success players.

Now is:

Felix Hernandez
Nolan Ryan
Roger Clemens (success)
Ryan Soohoo
Randy Johnson (surprisingly good- and I use him to teach intimidator)
Ryan Howard
Vince Steele
Robin Hood
Elliot Finch
Reggie Jackson
Gaia
Ultimate
Carl Crawford
Rocco Baldelli
Brian McCann
Devon Lanster
Andrew Gao
Li (expansion)
Pettyjohn (expansion)
Cresse (expansion)
Sain (expansion)
Huaman (expansion)
Shane Victorino
Jericho Campbell
Shaman King
Jon Papelbon
Justin Verlander

and some others

How?! How do you get him to teach it?

Trading in general is alright as far as mechanics but this game lacks some features that make it a little easier to use then most games released in the past 5 years.

It really needs a trading block feature to generate interest in players.

For instance:

Say you want to trade a player with high salary instead of searching around for a half an hour for a decent trade, that might not go through in 5 days you can just put a player up and see what the AI has to offer. It makes it a little less tedious then searching through a bunch of team menus to get the trade you need.

Almost all of the newer North American baseball games has this feature.
