I bought this game because I heard it was the best baseball video game around. I am HUGELY disappointed. Why didn't anyone ever mention that you HAVE to do a 162 game season? I bought a baseball video game because I wanted to actually play all the games, but I don't have time to play 162 games in a season, and I hate the idea of simulating them. I already play fantasy baseball, I don't need to play video game fantasy baseball as well.

No one has a problem with this, seriously? All I've heard is that the game is awesome, but I can't believe no one mentioned you can't shorten the regular season to a more manageable 25-50 games. If I had known that I wouldn't have wasted $30 on a game that I'm never going to play now (since there's no point, because I know I'll never finish a season anyway).

You could make a six team league, with 25 games.

Why have less than 162 game season?????? That is a useless feature on 2k8.

I admittedly haven't played a baseball video game in a while, but the games I used to play (World Series Baseball for Sega, All-Star Baseball for the Nintendo 64) all allowed you to shorten the season and provided realistic approximations in the shortened year.

As for "what is the point"...well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't have the time to devote a half an hour or more per game to 162 games. That's literally years of my life to get through one season with the frequency I'd be able to play, and there is no way I'd have the patience for that.

Nobody plays ALL 162 games. They usually simulate the regular season and play in the playoffs.

What if your team doesn't make the playoffs?

I sometimes play all 162 games, but I suggest to either play one game per series and sim the next two games or something like that if you don't want to play the whole season.

It's not really a problem to miss the playoffs, you still get to go on to the next season. But winning the WS is quite easy with a team with a handful of success players.

Think about it: It's not like the games actually take 3 hours to play. You can cram in a couple games in an hour or so. If you did that every day you'd be done with a season in less than 3 months, and that's if you played every single inning and every at bat.

Playing full tilt, i can get a full 9 inning game down to 15 minutes a pop. Slow down a bit and groan over replays and it'll take around 20-30 minutes... which isn't bad. You can play 2 full games on a kiddie "1-hour" limit.

Yeah, you can make the game go really quickly.

As mentioned above, the play one game of each series is a good way to do it. I'm in my first season, started about 3 weeks ago and I'm at about 100 games into the season now playing roughly 30 games. It's a good way to watch and use your team along the way making any trades if needed. Tigers get the job done when simulating, I think I'm around
76W - 24L first in the league. Will probbaly play half of the playoff games so I figure to complete a season every 2 months or so. At this rate will probably play 3 or 4 seasons til I get too bored with it or a new version comes out with updated rosters. I usually only play 1-2 games/day on average so thats only about 45 min/day, not wasting too much time, lol

I sim through the playoffs unless I am on the brink of losing. I think regular season wise I will play the first 20 or so games, go undefeated, and sim the rest out. That should be enough cushion to hold onto and at least get a wild card out of.
