I took on the Mariners to start with and quickly noticed that my expenses were outpacing revenues, and I then attempted some salary-dump trades and moves to fix that, such as trading off Sexson (To Philadelphia for Howard? I could hardly believe it!) and trying to dump Jeff Weaver and Horacio Ramirez on anyone who would take them....

What are your strategies for making points? I've tried salary dumps for younger (but high potential) players and getting into the games myself in order to make up some of the points, but I still don't feel comfortable making enough points to buy training goods.

As long as you win almost every game, anything under a 100000 salary would be golden. Use high-salary wastes and trade them for additional points, so you get those and don't lose as much.

well for me if you have back up players with high-ish salaries and you can stand to lose them go for players that can back up 2-3 postions

Winning big is the best way to earn points. It is possible to stack a team of stars and keep the salary in 5 digits. The World Series title will also deliver 80000 points in total for the whole playoffs.

Usually, in season mode, you will earn about 20,000 points from playing games. And, if you win the world series, 80,000 points. If any of your players get awards, maybe around 10,000 points. And the dividend points are also around 10,000. So as long you have a salary under 120,000 points, you'll make a profit.

What I would do is go with no backups and sign all of your top guys because you get more points with better performances. If that doesn't work, load up on success mode guys and go with a 180,000+ payroll that breaks even.

As long as you don't finish below 0, you'll be fine - sort of. You'll get more points as the years progress and you achieve things that reward greater points levels.

I think my salary is down to around 145k. I will take it though because my team (Mets) have some older players that I will let go at the end of the season. But I play each game and average around 800-1000 pts per game, plus the player awards per week/month. I broke even in the 3rd month of the season until I traded for Santana/Hunter. But I will re-trade Hunter for some young players and be down under 135k. Not to mention we ARE winning it all....so plus 80k. Also I gain 2000pp per game so I have more than enough to buy all the season bonus tokens. I figure I could handle up to 145k but it would be a little close.

You will be in the red early in your first season. Your income will not meet your salaries/expenses until later. You must generate income from ticket sales and food/beverages by your players doing well for the team. Thats how I look at it just to add more flavor to the game . The more goals you hit in a game the more income. The better your players play the more awards and more income. Montior till the all star game. If you arent close then trade. Otherwise build for the post season if you are in the hunt. Don't worry about the yearly income yet. Focus on the monthly statements and chase them.

I may be wrong, but I believe the season bonuses from the shop can only be used at the start.

For once, you're right! (just poking fun J-Gao)

At the beginning of season mode, the secretary will ask you if you want to start at the base salary or use the boosted salary, which will be your salary for the duration of that 10 season set. You can always start over... but once you've reached year 7, it's seems a bit perverse to start over.
