When I enter practice in season mode, I cant seem to figure out what I am doing. When I pick any of the catergories it wont let me pick or pair any players... What am I doing wrong? Do I need to purchace equipment before I can train at all?

Can someone give a detailed guide for the season practice? I know its probably going to be and epiphany moment when I get it, but I am not there yet...

Help!

Oh if it helps I am using the PS2 version...

Ok a big one here.

Practice gives the players a constant way of increasing points. Especially the development of AAA players and bench players. All players that play will have their stats affected either plus or minus based on their performance and then add the practice.

Now enter practice and hit switch info (- button on Wii) This will give you a bar. This bar is the fatigue level for the player. The higher the level the worse the player will perform and can increase in injury. I practice someone until their fatigue goes to around 1/2 way to 3/4 then rest them a few days in practice (but they still play the games). Also I purchased the Hot Dog practice equipment that decreases fatigue at a good rate.

You can select a player then select a catagory then what you want them to do. Automatic causes the program to select the lowest stat ( if it is lower than the league average at that position) and orders a fix on it if you select that. Or it will select a skill that will help the player. It doesnt always select a skill you want however. So you put him in technique and select what you want. You can get a definition of what the skill is in the player search area. Just switch to special skills and highlight it. Some skills have mulitple levels of advancement so hit the button more than once (A on Wii).

I dont mess with the others much as I know exactly what I want each player to do based on my playing style. If a pitcher is young and needs stamina throw him in Running for a week or two (or a season!). Batting is good also. Go for hitting focus as it increases con, pwr, and trj evenly.

To practice as a group: First remember that similar players will have an easier time working together. Like OF with OF or players learning similar skills. If you have a player with a skill you want to teach you need to build up the relationship. First highlight the player you want to switch into a group, do not hit the button just hover over his name, then hit change into group (c+down on Wii). Next find the player you want to be the veteran leader and do the same thing (c+down on Wii). If you select the mentor first it will make the other person the veteran leader. I have no idea why but do it my way and you cant get it wrong. To add another player to the list do the same thing, but when you select who to be the mentor select the first player and your veteran leader will not change. If you select the vet leader it will change. Again I dont know why.

There are a limited number of spots available. To get more you can get the friendship token (I think it is called) under equipment to add another slot. But 5 is good for the start as it takes time for the skills to be taught. First they have to build a relationship. Let them group together all the time. Try resting the group as a whole for consistancy.

Let me add that its a team game. But at bat your players will be 'different'. Your chances to get a hit or an out as a pitcher will vary from pitch to pitch. Some guys hit better with 2 strikes (Tough Out) some maybe a better rally hitter (if someone if front of you gets a hit) things like that. Also vs. Leftys and Clutch hitting will make a player hit differently in a situation. Picture a good clutch hitter who is bad against leftys....bring in a lefty and maybe you have an even chance to get an out...unless he's a switch hitter! Just remember to round out your players. You can have specalists and focus them, but if they dont always succed in what you wanted them to do, it could be because of the reasons above. Each situation is different. Try checking a player b4 he comes to bat and see what he can do. Maybe you want to take 2 pitches because he's a Tough Out Contact hitter with a 4 in clutch hitting and a runner in scoring position! Try different combos of abilities and be creative. It's your team!

I posted a whole bunch on player fatigue and motivation in the Season Mode section uner the Player Motivation Topic pg 2. Check that also.
And read, read, read all the posts!

Good luck! Reply if you need any other info.

Thanks for the pointers. What I had issues with was the fact that they are all on auto training and you have to take them out of the auto training to get them into groups and doing the things you want.

I wish they would have programmed it so that when you select a catergory you could then select a player to put into that catergory instead of having to select the player first.

Any way I did use the rest of your post, thank you very much!

That is because Auto Training is Automatic! It is a solo project taken on by a player in an effort to improve his playing. Kind of a one-on-one with the trainers. You cant group people together to fix a personal flaw, or hole in one's game if you will...That is the trainers job.

The Training area is for a manager to group a few players together to learn something from another player or a new skill from a trainer. No coaches involved in learning from another player. That is the difference they are trying to emulate. Players are not trainers/coaches. It takes time to learn something physical from someone. If you watch a MLB practice (many days of getting to Shea 4 hrs early) you will see group training and individual practice. Some run together or stretch together, some hit together, and the team will take fielding practice as well. Every once in a while a coach is working one on one with someone on a small thing. That is what its supposed to be.

I look at automatic as a general improvement center for all. Training that you can choose is where they graduate to if their playing skills meet my requirements (Im a hard a## on my players). Then they learn something new. Unless I brought them in as a situation specialist. Then I focus them. Remember if you trade them you trade the skill with them! I hate to spend resources and time training if I am planning to trade them down the line. I dont need Mike Piazza home runs all the time, a few Wally Backmans and a Kieth Hernandez will do! Get players to a standard of some sort then specialize. I look for 9+ on my fielders, 7+ on my hitters, 175+ power on my HR guys, and control/special abilities on my pitchers. Get what you can and mold them.

I am sure there are plenty of people that train crazy amounts of skills for their team, but I dont know too many players that can do everything. I need some humanity in my game!
