How exactly does Spring Training work? It doesn't really describe it in the manual and I'll I've heard is that you can only access it after playing through one complete season.

Are you assigned to your actual Spring Training league in Cactus/Grapefruit? Do you actually play through a full Spring Training schedule?

Spring Training is a time when you can practice different things-and standard practices are practiced faster. Some new practices you can use are
-Change Batting Style
-Change Pitching Form
-Convert (Change positions)
-Learn New breaking ball.

You do play a couple of spring training games as well.

Spring Training is also a good time to buy items in the shop. Use the practice time to pump stats up, and you get the benefit of it for the whole season. A big help for prospects no doubt.

it's also the best time to learn new abilities. Instead of wasting half a season on trying for an ability that just ends up failing, you waste maybe a couple practice sessions and you can just try it again. More often than not, you can learn a skill before the spring is over.

Can you only learn a new breaking ball or skill if there's another player that has that skill and you group them together, or can you learn it just by selecting a skill?

I dont think that they have to be grouped because i got Kazmir to learn a curveball by himself but i would assume that it helps

It can be learned just by selection.
Another wierd thing is, if you leave a guy there too long, he might learn it twice. I had a guy end up with two level 1 vertical sliders after a spring training.

That's weird. I've never had that happen before. I guess I better make sure when I do group two guys together and one of them fails, switch the other out.

I have had someone learn the same pitch twice. I have also had someone fail at learning a pitch after three years. He was both alone, with someone else that didn't have the pitch, and with someone that did. Nada. I guess some guys just can't learn new pitches.

Younger guys are more likely to learn new things. As they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Younger Guys also seem to learn how to do something much easier than older vets
ex.
Kazmir not an old dude at all learned in about 2 weeks

Maddux very old couldn't learn anything new

I had Kazmir and it took him a year and half to learn a new pitch. The other guy that never learned was young and was a 3 star prospect. No luck.

Can anyone provide some extra information about how changing a fielder's batting stance might be helpful/harmful?

I don't know of any actual effect on skill changing a stance has on a player. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's only visual.

With prospects, I think the higher rated ones learn at a faster/easier rate than lower rated ones. So a 4 star prospect is more apt to acquire a new skill than a 2 star prospect.
