I personally think that some stances are more conducive to certain skills. I have found that some work better for power hitter than guys that hit for average. Some make more solid contact and others tend to pop up more. This is by no means scientific research, but just general observation. Anyone else experienced this as well?

yea while messing around with players (shamelessly editing) i made a friend of mine and gave him C. Counsles original stance and he seemed to hit more home runs than when i had him with brandon phillips stance

I find the stances have a negative effect on my batting ability while controlling them - from the behind-view, some batter's stances block the pitcher's release point completely, leaving me pretty much helpless in determining where the pitch will end up.

My first 3 fielders all have horrible stances, but are otherwise perfect..which makes them pretty much useless to me in play-by-play gaming.

I'm not sure if it translates into the game but in real life, you can tell if a guy is a real hitter by his stance. One guy on my expansion team had C Power out of the box but has one of the crappy crouched stances. Dude can't hit. I've got guys with F power with more home runs than this guy. He's below the Mendoza line with 0 jacks after a month.

i find that there are some stances are not for hitting at all

Alvin's for instance is more for bunting and Original 1 just plain sucks do not use it

The crouching stances don't seem to be for HR's but more for Line Drives

on another note the open stances like Damon and Overbay seem made for Home Runs

Also I have finally figured out some stuff about Pitching Stances

Overhand tends to put pitches slightly above the chosen point

Sidearm can be seen causing slow fastballs to arch but still go to the chosen pitch point

So is it just the view, or do the stances actually have an affect on the way you hit the ball?

I was considering making a really good hitter with original 1. That's my favorite one because it looks like he too lazy to pick up the bat.
Will this absolutely ruin him, even if I get every ability?

Is 'original 1' the one where the bat is draggin on the ground, and the guy picks up his front foot waiting fot the pitch?

My power-hitting 1,B Paul Perry has that stance...and yes, it sucks. I can't hit anything worth crap, ever.

I'm really looking forward to being able to edit his stance, or switching it after a spring training.

Yeah that's the one.

I guess Patrick's would be a better choice then.

Strange that it would make that much of a difference.

I might try it anyway.

Yes..uhm...exactly...

Anyway, you can try loading my guy in from his password on the Wiki page...then do batting practice and see how it feels.

Cool. Thanks.

I tried him out in practice with lock on 1 and normal, and personally, I think I hit about the same as I would with any stance. It seems that when I miscue he hits it into the ground a lot. (could just be me)

So it might just be a mental thing. It is a little weird, but if you just concentrate on the ball, I don't think the batting stance matters.

Patrick's stance is good for power hitters. I used it for a Success guy and he clubbed a ton on HR's.

Don't use Craig Consull's stance...it's terrible.
It turned my 11 contact 194 power hitter with less than expected stats-he hit .184 with 15 hrs....
At the end of the 10 years he was hitting .272 with 25 hrs....but he had 14 contact and 200+ power >.>
