I've tried to train my players to acquire certain abilities via the technique practice in season mode, all to no avail. I'm playing with the Dodgers, and attempted to train

Garciaparra with Tough Out
Brad Penny with Intimidator (P)
Marlon Anderson with Cannon Arm
Saito with Dr. K

Every time they max out their training I get a message that says the respective training has failed. How can I get the practice to succeed?

I've bought the basic technique handbook, but not the others. What should I do?

Location: At home plate, in the paint, or past your offensive linemen.
Pair them with a friend who knows that technique.

Can I pair them up right before training finishes, or do I have to pair them up from the start?

Also, what if I don't have a teammate who knows a certain technique?

Thanks.

The only apparent way to learn a technique is from other players, at least that's what the secretary says during discussion.

At this point, it's time to make a trade, or do without.

The higher the friendship, the more likely the trait gets passed... so they should be together for a while.

Okay, now I'm getting skeptical. My players haven't had their friendship levels increase, either. I tried grouping players together such that everyone was training an ability in a group that had players who already possessed the abilities.

Over the course of the season, nobody learned anything. The ability training meters would cap, then go back to zero.

Has ANYONE successfully learned an ability through technique practice? If so, under what conditions?

Thanks.

haha, bit ironic that I was about to post regarding this too. Friendship levels are either broken or I don't know what I'm supposed to do. You learn techniques from your friends.... but the friendship levels *never* increase! I had a couple players in a group practicing for an entire season - their levels are still blue. (low)

How do you increase friendship levels so they pass on techniques?!

The secretary also said some players would get along better with some players than others, but I don't know how that is determined.

Perhaps, a veteran/rookie pairing is recommended.

Also, maybe Motivation will factor into the chance of learning a new technique.
