October 31, 2013 Ah, Halloween. So many kids to scare. I woke up around 9, swung by Hardee's for breakfast, then headed for the office. Mr. Wellington had set up a Halloween event for the team in order to gain publicity. Even then, I was surprised when I walked into the office and found him in a giant pumpkin costume. "Uh, Mr. Wellington? Couldn't you have hired someone to wear that?" "Nah," he replied. "I love Halloween, so I figured I'd wear this myself." Ok, weird. I got settled in at my desk and opened my email. I had to scroll past about twenty Hardee's coupons before I found an email from Jacob: "Happy Halloween! I've been partying all night here in China! Check it! Oh, and I found a player you might be interested in. His name is Bruce Lee. He's a submarine pitcher. Here's my eval: Name: Bruce Lee Age: 19 (will turn 20 on November 27) Position: RP Bats: R Throws: R Top Speed: 92 mph Control: F(107) Stamina: C(80) Lvl 6 CB Lvl 3 CHG W/RISP 4 Poise 4 Fastball Life 4 Groundball P Consistency 4 Choke Artist BRK Ball P He should be a good pick. Gtg, time for some more PARTY!!!!! Jacob." Bruce Lee... Sounds familiar. I ended up scrolling back up my email and found out that I had accidentally skipped one from Evan: "Hey Kevin, sorry I waited so long to send this email. I was busy getting ready for Halloween. Anyways, I held a tryout in Tennessee yesterday and found a pair of brothers that you might be interested in: Name: Zeke Palmer Age: 20 Position: 1B/2B Bats: R Throws: R Trajectory: 3 Contact: C(10) Power: D(112) Running Speed: C(10) Arm Strength: D(8) Fielding: D(8) Error Resistance: A(15) Clutch Hit 5 Durability 4 Gold Glover (must be his E Res) Name: Aaron Palmer Age: 19 Position: RF Bats: R Throws: R Trajectory: 3 Contact: B(12) Power: B(150) Running Speed: E(7) Arm Strength: E(6) Fielding: D(8) Error Resistance: A(15) Clutch Hit 5 Durability 4 Consistency 4 Base Running 4 Star Aggressive STL Aggressive RUN Aggressive FLD These two look pretty good to me. Give 'em a call. Evan Reynolds, Honolulu Wild scout. P.S. Happy Halloween!" By the time I had finished work, it was time for the Halloween event. Mr. Wellington walked around wearing his pumpkin costume and handing out candy, while I sold t-shirts and hats, and hosted a sweepstakes to give away the first ever Honolulu Wild jersey and four season tickets. After a few hours, it was time to announce the winner. "Alright everybody, it's time to announce the winner of the sweepstakes. The winner is... Alapaki Pela!" As everyone applauded, a teen boy walked up. I shook his hand and handed him the jersey, which he put on. We took some more pictures before he headed off with his family. He seemed pretty athletic. Hmm... The party finished a while later. We sold at least 200 t-shirts and hats. Hope we got a lot of fans out of this. |

November 2, 2013 Today I woke up to the smell of bacon cooking. Bacon? I walked out of my room to find Mr. Wellington cooking in my kitchen. "GAH!" I screamed, "What are you doing in my house?!" "Making breakfast," he replied. "I've gotta take care of my employees. I've put you through a lot with the fact that we didn't have any players, so I figured I'd try to make it up to you." "Ok... Wait, how did you get in my house?" "That's my secret ." Creepy... Anyways, after breakfast (Mr. Wellington is a surprisingly good cook) I went to the office. I opened up my laptop and found two emails. The first was a Hardee's coupon ( ). Not really. The first one was from Jacob. "Hey Kevin, I was passing through India on a camel and found a dude throwing a ball. He had some wicked breakers. Here's my eval: Name: Ala Kazam Age: 22 Position: RP Bats: L Throws: L Top Speed: 78 mph Control: D(120) Stamina: D(66) Hard Slider Lvl 4 Slow Curve Lvl 4 Knuckleball Lvl 4 Gd Low Pitch Might be worth a look. Take a look: Name: Willy Legend, Jr. Age: 19 (turns 20 on Jan. 1) Position: RP Bats: R Throws: R Top Speed: 93 mph Control: D(125) Stamina: E(36) Slider Lvl 2 Slurve Lvl 2 Changeup Lvl 4 W/RISP 4 Vs LH Batter 4 Poise 4 Spin 4 Gd Reflexes Consistency 4 Name: Andrew Hernandez Age: 19 (turns 20 on May 22) Position: 1B Bats: L Throws: L Trajectory: 3 Contact: D(8) Power: D(105) Running Speed: E(6) Arm Strength: E(6) Fielding: E(7) Error Resistance: C(11) Clutch Hit 4 Firstball Hitter Durability 4 Gold Glover (don't ask) Tough Runner AggressiveSTL Aggressive RUN Gd Small Ball Poise 4(?) Hey I like the uniforms, and the fact that all your players aren't too OP. |

Ya, I try to keep them even. There is one guy I'll be adding who's a little OP, but other than that, they're pretty basic. |

Alright, I'm leaving for Colorado Thursday afternoon, so I'm gonna try to get the whole roster up before I go. Everyone's made, just have to post them. Will work on storyline while in CO. |

November 5, 2013 I woke up a little earlier today. I had several meetings arranged with players throughout the day, so I figured I'd get in early and get some work done beforehand. After having breakfast at Hardee's ( ), I went into the office and got on my computer. I discovered a couple of emails from Evan and Jacob: "Hey Kevin, I just finished the Seattle tryout. Here are the best (in my opinion): Name: Brian Wells Age: 19 (turns 20 on March 26) Position: 2B/SS/3B Bats: S ( ) Throws: R Trajectory: 2 Contact: D(8) Power: F(72) Running Speed: D(8) Arm Strength: D(8) Fielding: D(8) Error Resistance: C(10) Push Hitter Tough Out Firstball Hitter Gd Pinch Hitter Durability 4 Clutch Hit 2 Star Cautious STL Gd Small Ball Name: Ryan Golden, Jr. Age: 20 Position: 3B Bats: R Throws: R Trajectory: 3 Contact: D(8) Power: D(118) Running Speed: C(10) Arm Strength: D(8) Fielding: B(12) Error Resistance: B(13) Clutch Hit 5 Consistency 4 Gold Glover Pivot Man Call 'em. Evan Reynolds, Honolulu Wild scout." "Hey Kevin, I finally made it to Europe! I'm sending this email from the top of the Eiffel Tower! Anyways, I found a pitcher here in France that might interest you. Have a look: Name: Patrick Daviau Age: 20 Position: SP Bats: R Throws: R Top Speed: 80 mph Control: D(122) Stamina: B(122) Curveball Lvl 5 Knuckleball Lvl 7 W/RISP 4 Poise 4 Recovery 4 Battler (surprising for a French dude ) Consistency 4 Give him a call. Jacob." After reading the emails, I contacted the players to arrange meetings. That afternoon, I was able to officially sign several players to contracts. A list of those signed: SP Derrick Noll: 1 yr, $880,000 SP Yuu Darvish: 1 yr, $970,000 C Brock Reynolds: 1 yr, $1,800,000 C/3B Randy Perzinski: 1 yr, $3,960,000 1B Chuck Norris: 1 yr, $4,650,000 CF/RF Zakinori Suzuki: 1 yr, $4,950,000 RF Akoni Kailolu: 1 yr, $4,200,000 Also, the other MLB expansion team was announced today: Man, those uniforms look sharp. Anyways, the team is owned by Megahard CEO Dave Johnson, whose net worth is somewhere around $5 billion. Hope he doesn't go too crazy and smoke us outta the AL West. |

November 12, 2013 I woke up this morning to freezing cold. I had no idea that Hawaii got below 80*, so I went and left the windows open. Anyways, after grabbing some Krispy Kreme doughnuts (mmm, chocolate), I headed into the office, where I opened my computer to find an email from Evan: "Hey Kevin, I held a tryout in Dallas this past week. Here are my recommendations: Name: Johnny Manziel Age: 18 (turns 19 on Feb. 7) Position: CP Bats: R Throws: R Top Speed: 94 mph Control: C(137) Stamina: E(33) Slow Curve Lvl 5 Changeup Lvl 4 W/RISP 4 VS LH Batter 4 Poise 4 Consistency 4 Gd Pace[/color Name: Jaime Garcia Age: 19 (turns 20 on July Position: SP Bats: L Throws: L Top Speed: 88 mph Control: [color=#00FF00]E(111) Stamina: B(110) Original CB Lvl 4 Drop Curve Lvl 4 Changeup Lvl 3 Knuckleball Lvl 1 W/RISP 4 Poise 4 Battler Cautious STL Aggressive RUN Name: Cristian Valenzuela Age: 19 (turns 20 on June 6) Position: 1B/2B/SS Bats: S Throws: R Trajectory: 3 Contact: C(10) Power: D(101) Running Speed: B(12) Arm Strength: D(8) Fielding: C(10) Error Resistance: C(10) Evan Reynolds, Honolulu Wild scout." |

November 15, 2013 Same routine, Hardee's, blah blah bl... Oh wait, that didn't happen. I woke up, got dressed, and found Mr. Wellington in my kitchen. AGAIN. "Mr. Wellington, how did you get in here? I changed the lo... I mean I changed the curtains." "I noticed the curtains," he replied. "They looked pretty nice before I broke in your window." "WHAT?!?!?!?!?!" "Yeah, don't worry. I'll replace it. But anyways, I need to take you somewhere. Hop in my car. As soon as your done with breakfast, of course." That guy may be a bit eccentric, but at least he's a good cook and rides in a limo. After breakfast, he took me into downtown Honolulu, and stopped next to a billboard of himself. "Oops, wrong way. But man is that guy handsome." After getting the limo to turn, he finally showed me what he wanted to: our new stadium. "Welcome to Panpaka Park, Mr. Gray," he said. "What do you think?" I was 100% speechless for about 10 seconds. The park was AMAZING! After a long tour, we drove back to the office. I opened my computer and found (you guessed it!) emails from Evan and Jacob: "Hey Kevin, just finished the Pittsburgh tryout. Here is my recommendation: Name: Jerome Carter Age: 18 (turns 19 on Christmas Day) Position: RF/1B/LF Bats: L Throws: L Trajectory: 3 Contact: D(8) Power: B(140) Running Speed: D(8) Arm Strength: C(10) Fielding: C(10) Error Resistance: A(15) Clutch Hit 5 Consistency 4 Base Running 4 Aggressive STL Aggressive RUN One tryout to go: LA. See you afterwards. Evan Reynolds, Honolulu Wild scout." "Hey Kevin, I've been searching Europe and part of Africa. Funny story: I ran into this old Irish guy. Man, was he feisty! But he could throw a ball, so I told him you'd call. Here's my eval of him and an African named Idowu Afolayan: Name: Jonathan O'Frankfurter Age: 49 (turns 50 on June 2) Position: RP Bats: R Throws: L Top Speed: 100 mph Control: F(105) Stamina: E(35) Original Cutter Lvl 5 W/RISP 4 Poise 4 Battler Consistency 4 Star Name: Idowu Afolayan Age: 18 (turns 19 on May 26) Position: SP Bats: L Throws: L Top Speed: 99 mph Control: D(129) Stamina: B(110) Original CB Lvl 6 Changeup Lvl 2 Poise 4 Gd Reflexes Battler Star Cautious STL Aggressive RUN Call them, ESPECIALLY the Irish guy. Jacob." Interesting batch. I was also able to finalize contracts with several players: SP Patrick Daviau: 1 yr, $1,420,000 SP Kenny DeNunez: 1 yr, $930,000 RP Ala Kazam: 1 yr, $2,960,000 RP Bruce Lee: 1 yr, $1,780,000 RP Willy Legend, Jr: 1 yr, $870,000 1B Andrew Hernandez: 1 yr, $1,400,000 1B/2B Zeke Palmer: 1 yr, $2,720,000 Hopefully they help us well. |
