I would like to know what they are based on. Range factor? Fielding percentage? Errors? Every time I have finished a season my catcher always gets it, but the rest of the time it is very random. I believe range factor is the most important part, and the high strikeout totals by my pitchers are lowering my fielders range factor except for my catcher.

This probably isn't that advanced of a game in terms of SABR-metrics, so I'd wager that it's based almost purely on Fielding Percentage.

I don't think that's it because at the end of the year a lot of my guys had 1.000 fielding percentage.

Maybe it's based purely on Error Resistance and Fielding grades?
Or number of put-outs/assists?
Double-Plays?
Combination of the above?

Definitely not on error resistance and fielding grades because my guys had 15 fld and e res. Double plays sounds too arbitrary and put-outs/assists sounds good. I know my outfielders rarely saw a flyball because all of my pitchers had the groundball pitcher ability.

The first time I played Season Mode Rickey Henderson and Reggie Jackson got the awards. Jackson was all A's, and Henderson was A in running and B in the other categories for fielding - I think. My pitching staff had Wang, Clemens, Aaron Cook, Ryan Soohoo, Pettitte, and Billingsley - for the most part they're also groundballers, too. And none of my infielders - A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Gao (my own guy) - won an award for fielding.

On a separate note, when simming through a season with all of your players, and King Cobretti's, and a few other success mode players - which i will now refer to as K(ing)(The-)FC(obretti) players - they stacked up the All-Star team. It was fun when I won by over 30 on Rookie settings - I suck at this game, otherwise.

What were their range factors? I just simmed a season and none of my guys won the awards. My third baseman, left fielder, center fielder all had range factors of under one.
Right fielder had a 1.29 RF .884 fld pct. 13 errors.
C with 6.17 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors.
1B with 4.46 RF 1.00 fld pct. 0 errors.
2B with 2.98 RF .998 fld pct. 1 error.
SS with 3.27 RF .994 fld pct 3 errors.
3B with .87 RF 1.00 fld pct. 0 errors.
LF with .84 RF 1.00 fld pct. 0 errors.
CF with 1.29 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors.

The winners were C 7.67 RF 0 PB .998 fld pct. 2 errors in 131 games.
1B 6.89 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors
2B 5.52 RF .999 fld pct 1 error
3B 1.29 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors
SS 5.58 RF .994 fld pct 5 errors
OF 2.4 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors (CF)
OF 2.3 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors (CF)
OF 1.42 RF 1.00 fld pct 0 errors. (RF)

My C did better in everything except for range factor. 1.5 difference.
My 1B did worse by 2.43 in RF equal elsewhere.
My 2B 2.54 worse in RF .001 worse in fld pct. equal elsewhere
My 3B .42 worse in RF equal elsewhere
My SS 2.31 worse in RF 2 less errors equal elsewhere
My LF .58 worse in RF from worse OF
My CF .13 worse in RF from worse OF
Right fielder is no contest.

After looking at this, RF is obviously the stat that separates my guys from the winners. My vastly superior pitching has cost my guys fielder of the year awards! On the bright side, all my guys won silver slugger awards. My C had a .470 avg. 40 HR and 313 RBI. :D

I think I'd sacrifice the fielders awards to get a ton of K's

me too, but I think this is a minor flaw in the game.
