I've never thought much about the birthday, when I'm making real life players I just put in their real birthday and fill in #years in the majors based on my concept for the player (like what year in the career I'm creating a player based off of for an MLB hall of famer).

That's an interesting though on the birthdays though. I do think experience/years in the majors does have some relationship to the effectiveness of the "veteran leader"

Does the game take personality into account?

I've got Randy Johnson trying to teach the Intimidator ability, and I hope it works out.

I've had guys together for a year, and still the level is blue - Teixeira leading Gaia for Intimidator - am I waiting too long, or is this normal?

It's normal. Don't ask me what it takes to get people to become friends. In my experience - if you leave players together for a complete year, they have about a 25-50% chance of becoming friends. Once they're friends then it only takes an extra month or two to become 'best friends'. Then once they're best friends - don't expect them to actually transfer abilities to each other. The chance of it happening if they're practicing with another person who has the ability doesn't seem to increase at all, and they sure don't randomly transfer abilities if they're practicing something else....

IMO the whole friends system is just broken.

awww. I was really looking forward to an all-Intimidator team.

I would bet "high profile" abilities like intimidator would have an even lower chance of being learned, so it would take longer than the given 10 years for season mode to get multiple ppl with the ability.

I got friendship to work on my game. I paired Jose Reyes and David Wright together in Fielding Practice. I paired them up the whole season. Although for the first two months they were both practicing hitting (their friendship didn't go up). So the conclusion I've come to is that it just takes time. Their friendship level didn't go up until spring training of the next season. They have "yellow friendship".

I paired together groups for two years now and have had one pair become red friends. I then taught power hitter to one of them. It failed the first time but the ability was acquired the second (I save loaded). Would be interesting to do a trial of this to see what acquisition % for friend with ability vs no friend.

How many total people in groups can you get eventually? Right now I bought the Proof of Friendship book and I have two groups of 3 people.

i think i have 2 groups of three and 1 of two... that is like proof of friendship 2...

do you chose what techniques players pass on or is it random?
is there anything else you have to do besides practice together?

Once you get their friendship levels high, you put both of them into the technique practice and choose which one you want.

I just got this game last week and I love it! Just had to say that first. I like the fact that it takes awhile, like real life. But I think that they could have increased the amount of groups you could have and just cap the group size. At that point I wouldn't care how long it took. I haven't unlocked everything in the shop (played 10 games in my season) but I hope I can increase the group size later.
