Signing your talk page comments ensures that we know where the comment is coming from, and who to direct further questions regarding it. If we don't know who said it, we can't respond.

This also allows us to see who wrote last without having to check the differences in the history.

It's really easy. Just push the signature button Image or type --~~~~ at the end. This will auto place a link to your user page and a timestamp, like so:

Code:
I think we should rename this page to John_Doe --~~~~

becomes:
Code:
I think we should rename this page to John_Doe  --MaxDSterling 15:38, 16 February 2008 (CST)

The typical hierarchy of talk pages is simple, Headers mark of subjects, and each successive reply is indented an additional level.
Code:
==New Subject in a Header==
First comment --Signature
:A reply [b](notice the COLON- to indent and keep paragraphs separate)[b] --Signature
::Another Reply...
::Same Reply that requires 2 paragraphs --Signature
A Comment on the same subject but not part of the above conversation. --Signature

==New Subject in a New Header==
First Comment --Signature
...

Custom Signatures
Due to the phpBB - MediaWiki integration Extension, user names will appear differently on the wiki as opposed to the forum. Most noticably, the first letter is typically capitalized and the rest are lowercase (a phpbb issue when comparing).

Wikipedia has an article on Custom Signatures here.
