Picked up the game last week. Loving the new MLB life mode so far. I've noticed something though and I'm not sure if it's my settings or the way the game is now.

When I'm batting, I seem to be stationary and only able to move the bat around, as opposed to being able to move the batter himself around like in the 07 version.

Is this a change from the old game or do I have some setting messed up?

Thanks.

Hmmm,

Guess it'll take some getting used to. I'm not a huge fan of it so far...

It does get some taking used to, it's very weird, I actually liked moving around.

Moving was easy to abuse (hit by pitch), and I don't see a whole lot of waddling back and forth from MLB players. >_>

Funny thing: I'm not much of a baseball or sports fan, and I don't follow anything outside my favorite teams, and even then, only major games.

That's the only way to get walks in this game though...

I drew a walk in my Rookie Year, in Life. It's tough, but totally possible. I was also intentionally walked at least once.

It does happen but you have to work for it. Most pitchers are very close to the strike zone but it seems that the umpire this year is much more strict with the strike zone. Pitches on the edge are rarely called strikes this time out.

And you must be defensive swinging with two strikes, esp on the outside half of the plate. I spent a good amount of time in practice to foul off pitches.

Fouling off pitches is key. If it isn't easy to handle out over the plate, don't waste the at bat by trying to keep a "pitcher's pitch" fair that will just result in a weak ground out or pop out. Force him to make a mistake or walk you.

I actually am very patient, I've been intentionally walked once. I do foul off pitches, but I never got a walk in my first year and almost did this year but then they just kept throwing strikes then. So, maybe it's possible but not very likely. I also like moving around not to just get HBP it seemed better feeling to me when swinging.

-lol- saying "I drew *a* walk in my rookie year" is rather indicative of the problem :D I do think it was easy to abuse the HBP, but it somewhat compensated for walks being unrealistically hard to come by.

I'm not patient at all as a hitter in this game, I don't see a lot of value in it. I'd rather hack at the first decent pitch I get :)

I actually used to be that way, and then I started to become very patient, which makes me mad because if I was still that player I wouldn't care about it. Now, since it's very hard to get walks in this game I see myself probably reverting back to old ways and hacking away at everything.

I can see why they changed that for 2008 but if they make one for 2009 they should give you an option to take a step or two forward or back before the pitch.
