(Might want to go to page 6 since there was a big playoff update)

For the resignings/negotiations:

I'm going to try to keep it like real-life. If a player has 3 or less years of experience, i'll try to only bump their salary up by 10 (390->400) since arb years.
Once they hit 4 years of exp, then I'll be willing to give out larger contracts BUT only on a 1 year basis since the game is stubborn as shit and won't let you give out contracts like Longo's/tulo's (2+ duration years). Only they have 6 or more years of exp then we can talk about long term contracts, at least i think that's when the game is okay with it. It might be 7 but we'll find out. I'm willing to save/load a lot to get these contracts to work. I'm most likely going to DM on discord the negotiations since it'll be more organized and less spam here.
Last thing, im going to try to keep the contracts a little more realistic since like Hanley Ramirez requests a 1000 salary in like 2014 when he should prolly be a top 5 contract in the game. But again the game is stubborn af and won't budge (Giambi wanting to keep a 21000 salary after 2 years lol). The contract negotiations are weird since i've signed pujols to a 5/390 deal a bunch of times before but some players dont want anything less than like 14000 if they were 15000 the year before

TLDR:
negotiations are done through discord DM's

3 years MLB exp means only arb year contracts (ex: 390 -> 400 -> 410), or at least attempt to contain it that way
4 years MLB exp means larger 1 year contracts (410->5000)
6 years MLB exp mean contracts that can last more than 1 year since game is broken and dumb (at least i think a player needs 6 or more for those contracts to work)
more realistic contract values

Going to wait a day or so to allow people to catch up on this, and i can't guarantee negotiations with the agents to take 5 hours since life gets in the way

Agentp - Edwin Jackson, Joey Votto, Carl Crawford, Shawn Riggans, Elliot Johnson
PP27 - Scott Kazmir, James Shields, Jonny Gomes, Andy Sonnanstine, Gary Glover
Baseballteen9500 - Akinori Iwamura, BJ Upton, Evan Longoria

A few days after winning the World Series, Al Reyes has announced his retirement. Reyes put in 130.1 IP for his 2 years with the Rays, while also being one of their consistent relievers. Not necessarily coming off as a surprise since Reyes' contract expires within the next few days.

The list of players that can walk to free agency are:

Trever Miller
Carl Crawford
Mark Mulder
Eric Hinske

Crawford was arguably the team's MVP and T. Miller was a top 2 bullpen arm throughout the whole season for the Rays.
With Trever Miller making 16000 this past season, his age might hurt his contract value moving forward

Rays' award winners:

HR title (shared) - BJ Upton
SB title - Carl Crawford
ERA title - Scott Kazmir
Win title (shared) - Scott Kazmir

Cy Young award - Scott Kazmir
Rookie of the Year award - Johnny Cueto
Gold Glove (Catcher) - Shawn Riggans
Gold Glove (2B) - Akinori Iwamura
World Series MVP - Jonny Gomes

After a week of the re-signing stage, the Rays have managed to agree with most of their roster so far.
Larger re-signings:

Scott Kazmir: 3785 --> 1y/9550
Jonny Gomes: 1280 --> 1y/4200
Carl Crawford: 4620 --> 5y/13000 with a Full No-Trade clause

The other players that resigned so far have had increases within the 10-800 value range on a 1 year basis.

Only 4 players remain without an agreed contract, 2 of them being Gabe Gross and Jeff Day.
The last 2 players - who can opt for FA - are Mark Mulder and Trever Miller; we've been told that the Rays are trying to keep both but for a larger pay cut. Presumably that Mulder's shoulder issues hinder any big and long-term contract. Sources also mentioned that T. Miller's large contract may get in the way of potential re-signings for this upcoming team along with being an aging arm. More to come in the follow weeks.

Trever Miller: 16000 --> ???
Mark Mulder: 6500 --> ???

As a result of having a successful season, the Rays' payroll budget has increased from 80000 to 82500

The rest of the Rays' roster have all agreed to contracts.
Larger re-signings:

Trever Miller 16000 --> 2y/5000
Mark Mulder 6500 --> 1y/1500

Reportedly, T. Miller was seeking around 18000 for 1 year but the Rays declined it saying that it would eat too much of their budget not allowing for new players. T. Miller's contract does have a player option for an opt out after the 1st year allowing him to control his own fate; most likely why there was a large pay cut.

Mulder's contract however has a few incentives:
150 for having 60+ IP
100 for 10 starts
100 for 30 games played
(I will most likely just trade away that money if those are reached, not counting it towards the trade limit)

Rays' payroll budget/cap: 70030/82500

Now it's time for free agency to occur, some big names hitting the market include Mark Teixeria, John Lackey, and Edgar Renteria. It's unclear what the Rays will do here since most of their roster is fulfilled, so if any signings happen there may be a trade in the future.

The Rays have officially signed John Smoltz to a 2 year/6500 deal. The 41 year old had his first down year since becoming a starter again (since 2005). Seems that the Rays believe he still has enough left in the tank to make an impact on a team with an open winning window. But with an already crowded starting rotation staff, there might be a few interesting roster moves to be made when spring training rolls around; not to mention they had David Price toiling in AAA all of last season.

Rays payroll/cap: 76530/82500

Spring training has concluded and the Rays have released their opening day roster along with their AAA one. In adherence to the rule, ALL players were training in weak areas - as designated by the coaching staff - until the beginning of April. The biggest surprise being that the Rays have optioned Johnny Cueto down to AAA to work with David Price. Our sources tell us that they are still working on stretching out the pitch counts on Price and Cueto, while monitoring their IP. Some other news is that Carl Crawford and BJ Upton have swapped places in the outfield: Crawford moving to CF, and Upton moving to LF. The moves seems to make sense as Crawford has more speed and slightly better fielding skills than Upton. We assume both will fit nicely in their new spots.

A bit of a logjam with the amount of starters, eh?

Wait, I swear Gabe Kapler used to be on the Rays in this game

Edit: Nope, guess he was on the Brewers in 2008

yuh, this at least gives me a chance to up price and cueto to at least A stam & D control before they stay in the MLB (meaning i can't train them; until spring training or on IL - being in AAA). cause having them both around 135 stam wouldnt result in like any complete games

The Rays had a great battle with the Yankees on opening day. Kazmir Struggled early but settled down after the 2nd inning. In the 5th inning, Kazmir gave up 1 hit and another runner got on via an error by Longo. Mulder was called upon - also being his first pitching appearance in over 1 calendar year - and struck out the next 3 batters to end the inning. Mulder was lights out striking out 6 of his 7 batters faced. In the 6th inning, the Rays had a merry-go-round of hits that lead to 4 runs. They eventually padded another which subsequently helped them since Percival was charged with a run. Each team's BABIP was .500 or higher so the strikeouts helped out. The Rays look to keep their 162-0 pace up tomorrow.

side note: my game posting pattern was following the order of the starting rotation order (1>2>3>4...) by posting the start after 1 complete rotation cycle:
ex:
Starter 1 (game posted)
starter 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1 skipped
Starter 2 (game posted)
starer 3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2 skipped
Starter 3 (game posted)
etc
this usually ended up being 6-7 days simmed in between games that i posted

I'm prolly going to extend it a bit by going through the rotation 2 times so i can get through the seasons a bit quicker, rather than it taking a month for each season (implying i can get an update out each day)
if things get interesting towards the end of the season, then i'll will revert back to a more compact simming order

The Rays beat out the Blue Jays in an excellent chess match between James Shields and Jesse Litsch. Both starters racked up double digits strikeout totals and allowed less than a hit per inning. The only damage the Rays managed to do came from some great small ball. Gomes got on early in the 3rd inning, Riggans then had a sac bunt (moving Gomes over), Crawford came in and knocked Gomes home for the only run of the game. Riggans also helped out on the other side of the field by getting 3 caught stealing calls: Vernon Wells 2 times and David Eckstein 1 time.

The Rays are having a better start this season than they did in 2008, so we'll see how they keep it up with this all-around team. Management informed us that even with Riggans' offensive struggles (reason for Navarro losing the starting role last season), they're going to keep him in the starting lineup since his glove hasn't lost a beat.
