After the surprising announcement by NBA commissioner Adam Silver that the league would be holding a fantasy draft, the sporting world was shaken. People questioned if the commissioner even had the power to force each team to release all their players and hold a draft, but the idea rolled forward. The lower tier teams loved the idea of possibly being able to draft a superstar and make a run for the title, while the more talented teams were resentful of the decision. Fans and experts alike clamored to have their opinion heard, some saying that this was a good move because it will increase interest in the league and spread parity throughout, while others complained that it ruined what the league had been building over the past few years by forcing teams to restart with new players. Also, in order to hold more interest throughout the year, the season was shortened to 14 games and the playoffs were also shortened to 1, 1, 3, and 5 game series, in that order. Nonetheless, the draft was held last night, and here is the roster of our 2014-2015 Boston Celtics.

Image

PG Rajon Rondo
SG Danny Green
SF Kevin Durant
PF Draymond Green
C John Henson
6 Kevin Garnett
7 Bismack Biyombo
8 Shaun Livingston
9 Kent Bazemore
10 Anthony Morrow
11 Andre Roberson
12 Richard Jefferson

Head coach Brad Stevens and GM Danny Ainge were a beautiful pair for this draft, and the Celtics were one of the better equipped teams to overhaul their roster with these two brilliant minds. Obviously, this roster is built around both defense and the scoring ability of Kevin Durant. Rondo is a great defender and floor general, and will be able to both defend his position and set up Danny Green and Kevin Durant. Danny Green is a prototypical 3 and D player, and will fit in well here by knocking down open shots created by Rondo and Durant. Not much needs to be said for Durant, one of the best scorers in the league. Draymond Green is one of the scrappiest players in the NBA, and his hustle, energy, and toughness will add even more to this squad. John Henson is a top quality rebounder and rim protector, and will not be expected to score much. Kevin Garnett is a local favorite, along with Rondo, due to being on the '08 championship team in Boston. He's another tough defensive stopper, with a sweet jumpshot to boot. Bismack Biyombo is a young big who already knows how to rebound and defend, and will hopefully develop his offensive skills in Boston as well. Shaun Livingston is a huge point guard at 6'7", and his size leads to matchup problems. He will be a great leader of the second unit. Kent Bazemore and Anthony Morrow are two guards who can score, plain and simple. Roberson and Jefferson won't be seeing much playing time at the end of the bench. This team is fairly young, but is ranked 2nd overall after the draft. Let's bring home another title!

Boston Celtics(1-0) @ Brooklyn Nets(0-1)

Image
Kevin Durant splashes home 3 of his 45 points in the season opener in Brooklyn. KD was unstoppable all night, shooting 21-30 from the field.

Week 1- Our Celtics opened the next chapter of the NBA on the road in their week 1 game, taking on a Brooklyn Nets squad led by Stephen Curry, Chandler Parsons, and Jonas Valenciunas. Kevin Durant opened the first quarter on a tear, scoring Boston's first 8 points, but found his team down late in the 1st quarter as he headed to the bench. The second unit came in with a burst of life, outscoring the Nets 14-8 to end the quarter, giving Boston a 26-24 lead. Curry ended the quarter with 10 points for Brooklyn, but he also hit the bench to start the 2nd quarter. This turned out to be a huge advantage for the Celtics, as they went on a 23-8 run with Curry out of the game, thanks in part to 8 points from Anthony Morrow and capping with a fast break dunk by Draymond Green. Durant picked up where he left off upon reentering the game, and ended the first half with 23 points and a 57-44 lead for the Celtics. The 3rd quarter was more of the same, and any attempt at a run by Brooklyn was shut down by Boston. The quarter ended with Boston still in the lead, 77-63. The Nets were a bit more successful in the 4th, closing the gap to 10 points a number of times, but were never able to get any closer. Durant stayed hot and ended with 45 points, but Steph Curry was close behind with 40 of his own. The fast break and bench points were huge advantages for Boston, ending up with a 23-8 advantage in fast break points and outscoring Brooklyn 27-18 from the bench. Anthony Morrow had 10 points in 11 minutes, Kent Bazemore had 8 in 8 minutes, and Shaun Livingston had 9 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in 11 minutes. Rajon Rondo netted a double double with 10 points and 13 assists.

New York Knicks(0-2) @ Boston Celtics(2-0)

Image
Anthony Morrow drills his fourth three pointer of the season in the first half against the Knicks. Morrow is shooting 83%(5/6) from 3 this season, including 3/4 in this game.

Week 2- The Celtics were victorious again in their week 2 game against the New York Knicks, who feature the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Isaiah Thomas. The Celtics jumped out to an early lead and the bench extended it, once again outscoring their opponents by a margin of 10-2 in the 1st quarter and 28-17 on the game. The dominance of the bench may be best shown by the +21 point differential for Boston with Kent Bazemore in the game. Boston knocked down 3/4 attempts from deep in the quarter, and led 30-22 to start the 2nd quarter. Kevin Durant was a force once again, and even the defensive player of the year, Kawhi Leonard, couldn't do much to stop him as Durant lit up the Knicks for 19 first half points. Isaiah Thomas lead the Knicks with 13 at the break, but his team trailed 49-41. Boston came out of the break on fire, knocking down 5/6 threes in the 3rd quarter to break open the game. The defense also forced 4 turnovers which led to 11 Celtic points. The Knicks really struggled to start the 2nd half, and trailed 79-60 entering the 4th quarter. To their credit, they did not give up and even outscored Boston 22-19 in the 4th, but it was a case of too little, too late as the Celtics were able to secure the W. Another noteworthy statistic is that Boston shot 10/20 from 3, while New York was just 5/17 from deep.

K. Durant: 31 PTS, 6 REB, 3 AST, 1 BLK, 12-23 FG, 3-8 3PT
Dray. Green: 17 PTS, 7 REB, 3 AST, 1 BLK, 3 TO, 7-13 FG, 1-2 3PT
K. Bazemore: 12 PTS, 3 REB, 1 AST, 1 TO, 6-8 FG, 0-1 3PT

I. Thomas: 19 PTS, 4 REB, 6 AST, 1 TO, 8-18 FG, 1-3 3PT
K. Leonard: 14 PTS, 3 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 2 TO, 6-8 FG, 2-2 3PT
J. Sullinger: 11 PTS, 14 REB, 1 BLK, 5-11 FG, 1-1 3PT
