My outfield has been terrible since the Bautista injury so I'm looking to shake things up a bit. Bautista is coming back very soon, though.

Jose Alvarez the guy I wanted to have the bluejays sign during the draft

Okay, so I looked back through the log, and I believe I said that it was too late for you to get that guy in at that moment. So, he isn't in the game.

However, if you want him to be in, then read the posts about the Draft on page 7, follow those guidelines, and then edit your guy accordingly. If you don't want to wait until next season, that is.

I can't edit hitters into pitchers, though, but there still is one hitter available (PP27 "called" him, but that is basically meaningless since he hasn't put the edits he wants up yet), so if you're quick enough, you can get him and I'll edit him.

Understand?

Is Joseph Gergerson José Alvarez's alter-ego, or vice versa?

So which of the 2 pitchers left that I drafted do you want me to edit? Cisneros, the 1st rounder, or Samuels, the 5th rounder?

Stradley's Strong Start Stymies, Jays Sweep 'Stros

TORONTO - Kent Murphy rounds first base as his batted ball clears the center field wall for the first of the Blue Jays' 3 dingers on the day.

The Blue Jays, who had been struggling somewhat prior to the series, easily finish off the 4-game sweep of the plummeting Astros, who have fallen to .500 after a surprisingly hot first half. Jose Bautista returned from his injury, batting cleanup today. His presence was certainly felt by the rest of the team, as they banged out 9 runs and 16 hits against Astros pitching.

Righty Dean Stradley and lefty Dallas Keuchel were the starters today, and both looked very dominant early on. However, both of them ran into problems in the 5th inning, as the Astros put the first run on the board with a Jose Altuve base hit. However, Stradley would settle down after that inning, and in fact, put together his best pitching performance yet. Stradley went 8.1 innings, only giving up 2 runs and 7 hits, and striking out 12 Astros. Stradley almost got a complete game, but after recording the first out of the 9th, he allowed 2 straight singles before giving way to Leo Vizcaino, who allowed 1 of the inherited runners to score but got the next 2 outs.

Stradley's start was in deep contrast to the one by Keuchel, as he was hit around quite hard in that 5th inning. After a Navarro leadoff single, he served up a homer to Kent Murphy, putting the Astros behind 2-1. Two more singles by Michael Scott and Jose Reyes were followed by a double by new guy Eury Perez, driving both players in. He would later come around and score on an Edwin Encarnacion base hit. The Blue Jays piled on 4 more in the 6th in part to back-to-back homers by Hayden Goldson and Navarro off of new reliever Michael Schwimer, one of the players the Jays released as a cost-cutting measure.

Every player in the Blue Jays' lineup got a hit except designated hitter Luis Jimenez, and the first 3 batters in the lineup (Reyes, Perez, Encarnacion) all got 3 hits each. Reyes is also inching closer to the .300 mark, as his average currently stands at .298.

This marks the last game in a 10-game long homestand for the Blue Jays. They head over to Oakland to face the first-place A's in the last series of the month.

Jays Drop Final Game, Final Series of July
by Gregor Chisholm, MLB.com

OAKLAND - A's players celebrate their series victory.

The Blue Jays end their month on a sour note, losing to the Oakland A's by a score of 5-3.

After an RBI single by Jose Bautista, the game remained largely uneventful until a big 7th inning. Not to take anything away from starters Andrew Werner and Danny Hopkins of course, as when "uneventful" is used, it usually means the pitching did a very good job. This was no different, as both pitchers threw very solid games this afternoon. Werner, the A's lefty, only allowed two runs, the first being Bautista's RBI single and the second being a solo shot by Hayden Goldson in the 7th. Overall, Werner went 6.2 innings, giving up the 2 runs, striking out only 3 batters but not walking any.

Hopkins also did well, as despite a stressful 4th inning in which he walked 3 batters, he managed to keep the A's offense from doing any real damage until the 7th. It was a somewhat controversial decision by Jays manager John Gibbons to leave Hopkins in for the 7th, and it simply did not pan out. Hopkins gave up hits to the first 2 batters of the inning, one of which was an RBI single by right fielder Kent Matthes, before being subbed out for Todd Redmond. Redmond wouldn't fare very well, giving up a double to catcher Derek Norris, which drove in Matthes, and then serving up a 2-run shot to left fielder Yoenis Cespedes. Leo Vizcaino took his place, and gave up 1 more run before HE had to be taken out. Lamont Cates stopped any further damage from occurring, but by then, it was much too late for the Jays. They tacked on one more run in the 8th, but that would be it.

Yoenis Cespedes was named the Player of the Game today. He would be asked post-game about his approach going into the at-bat against Redmond.

"I was looking for a breaking ball from him, I know he likes to throw the backdoor slider, so I was waiting on it. Fortunately for me, the pitch was very close to the middle, so I knew I could do something with it, and yeah, I did. I turned on it and hit it over the left field wall.

I am glad I could come through today, I know the Blue Jays have been very good this year, and we play in a tough division, so this was a must-win game for us. I'm happy I could help accomplish that, and I'm also glad our pitching could also keep us in the game."

The Blue Jays will head from Northern down to Southern California to take on the Angels in a 4-game set.

In a shocking development, it appears that no deals will be happening at the deadline this season. There still can be waiver trades, but those happen with even less frequency than normal trades do.

Why aren't any trades happening? Is that just the way the game is?

The game proposes trades, the majority of them just happen to be absolute garbage so I end up not letting them go through.
