I was actually quite shocked when it happened. I usually spend at least a full season in AA before being called up, and especially with the injury I didn't see it coming.

Woo! Nice job! :D I'm assuming your team is the Iowa Cubs?

Week of August 28th, 2011

The last week of my first professional season (it actually ended on Monday the 5th, but close enough). I actually got more starts than I thought I would, as I played in every game between August 29th and September 3rd. I went 2 for 3 with two doubles on Monday but hitless in 4 plate appearances on Tuesday. I was 1 for 5 on Wednesday and grounded out as a pinch hitter in Thursday's loss. On Friday, I was given the start again, this time in right field. I went 3-for-5 with a couple runs scored, and I also picked up a stolen base, surprisingly my second in AAA despite my relative lack of speed.

Heading into Saturday, we had three games remaining and were 3 games behind the Nashville sounds, so their "magic number" stood at one. I came up to the plate with the bases loaded in each of my first three at-bats, but only cashed in once with a double. We won the game, but the Sounds did too, clinching the division. Everyone was pretty bummed, and even though I didn't really know most of the players that well, I felt for them. I guess that attitude kind of carried over into our next two games, as we lost both, ending the season at 77-67.

Now that I'm done for the year, I plan on going back home to California to spend time with my family and watch my hometown Giants. I figure since I'm not yet a major leaguer, it's acceptable. The Cubs are a lost cause, anyway.

I guess I can label my first season as a success, especially since I got called up to AAA, even if it was only for a few games. Negotiations don't start until November, so I have a while to relax.

Week's Stats
7-21, .333, 0 HR, 3 2B, 0 3B, 4 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K

Season Stats(AAA)
10-26, .385, 0 HR, 3 2B, 0 3B, 4 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 4 K, .448 OBP, .500 SLG

Season Stats(AA)
63-215, .293, 3 HR, 11 2B, 4 3B, 27 RBI, 27 R, 14 BB, 35 K, .330 OBP, .423 SLG

Standings
1. X-Nashville Sounds - 80-64
2. Iowa Cubs - 77-67
3. Memphis Redbirds - 73-71
4. Omaha Storm Chasers - 70-74
X: Division Winner

Well, the good news is that you hit over .300. Bad news, you're a prospect for the Cubs...

Isn't there AAA playoffs in that game? Or no?

October 29th, 2011

The World Series ended about a week ago.

I spent a lot of my time watching the Giants, and they finished the season at 95-67, winning the NL West, but they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Cardinals, who went on to win the World Series against the Tigers in 7 games. I especially enjoyed watching the Giants because it gave me a way to spend time with my father and brother.

Today, I met with Tom, and he presented me with a contract. I guess signings are pretty impersonal when you're a low-profile minor leaguer. Anyway, it was for 1 year and $80,000, a 167% raise. Tom encouraged me to submit a counter offer, but I declined. Getting paid $80,000 to play baseball was more than enough. Before leaving, he told me I was probably going to start the season in AAA on the bench. I think he was expecting me to be upset by this, but I was actually relieved; I had been worried about going back down to AA.

On my way back home I started to think about the upcoming season, and I got pretty excited. I was already in AAA and I wasn't even 21 yet, so who knows? Maybe 2012 September Call-ups will be my time.

Spring Training can't come soon enough.
