Orioles Bring Late Rally, Can't Quite Seal the Deal on Opening Day

There wasn't the usual happiness in the air today at Camden Yards because despite it being Opening Day, both teams know that they won't be able to contend this year. None-the-less, the two teams put together a very entertaining game with a nail biting finish. The Rays kicked off the action first with an RBI double by Upton to score Crawford from first, giving them an early lead. In the fourth, Navarro hit a sacrifice fly to right, plating Baldelli from third base to give the Rays a 2-0. The momentum started to shift Baltimore's way when Longoria hit into an 8-6-3 triple play in the top of the sixth. But it turned back once the bullpen came out. Chris Ray gave up a homer to Pena in the eighth and Chad Bradford gave one to Floyd in the ninth, both of which ultimately sealed the O's fate. In the bottom of the ninth, Kevin Millard and Luke Scott each hit a double to cut the lead to 4-2. With a runner on second and two outs, Aubrey Huff, the Orioles best power hitter, drove a deep flyball to right, only to be caught on the warning track. The Rays were able to hang on and get their first win of the season off a strong outing from Kazmir. Baltimore on the other had, goes home empty handed and will try to steal a win tomorrow.

Markakis and Scott Notch the Orioles their First Win this Season

The Orioles have lost once again, this time on a walk-off against King Felix and the Mariners. Both offenses started hot early, entering the third inning with one run a piece, but most offense was scored in the third. The O's struck first, roughing up Hernandez for four runs, including a three-run homer by Luke Scott. The Mariners hit back in the bottom half, with RBI doubles by Raul Ibanez, Adrian Beltre, and Richie Sexson to score four runs of their own. In the bottom of the ninth, Yuniesky Betancourt popped a bloop single into left, but was caught stealing on the next play. Despite that error, Willie Bloomquist dribbled an infield hit to third, and came home on the winning run due to a walk-off triple by Ichiro Suzuki.
