Spring training fieldng memo

CONFIDENTIAL INTERNAL MEMO REGARDING 2012 SPRING TRAINING

With all the young infielders we obtained over the last two years, following are our recommendations on how to handle spring training

Aranda (age 22), 3B (ECGEEE, clutch – four): since the trading deadline, he's focused exclusively on fielding, but it is still not clear if he will develop enough to be a ML 3B. Recommendation: learn 1b

Hyatt (age 23), see (FF59 FCCC, great capture): is major-league ready to catch, but a long ways from being able to handle the bat. Recommendation: focus on batting

Arriaga (age 23), 3B (ECFDFD): he has already been in the majors for three years even though he is just 23 years old and may become a good offensive-minded 3b. Recommendation: focus on batting

Rolls (age 23) SS (EEECCD): with arm strength and fielding both at level 10, has the potential to become a BB SS if he focuses on defense. He also has the potential for DD offense if he focuses on hitting. Recommendation: focus on batting or defense, depending on what equipment we have, and if we do not buy either equipment, have him learn second base and then third

Finnigan (age 24) SS (DDDBCD, gold glove, spark plug): when the time comes for our current SS to leave, Finnigan will battle with Devore for the SS spot; although his fielding is level 11, once he got to 11, he did not improve much in that area. Recommendation: Learn 3B and 2b

Devore (age 26) SS/2B (EDCCBD, gold glove): excellent in the field and arm strength is level 11, but once it reached 11, did not improve much. Has the ability to be an offensive force if focuses on batting and then power in the next few years. Recommendation: focus on batting

Cornejo (age 26 – 2010 number one draft pick), 3B (EDECDC): as good defensively as our current 3b, and capable with the bat; it is not clear whether he will ever be more than a defensive minded 3B, and since we could have a defense of minded 3B by teaching rolls or Finnigan 3b, and Cornejo is older than both of those and our current 3b, who has CC offense, he might be trade bait. Recommendation: focus on batting

Dunwoodie (age 26) C (EEFCDC, good block): a capable defensive–minded catcher who makes contact at the plate. Recommendation: focus on batting

THE ENTIRE TEAM DISAPPEARS!!!

The Iowa City Country, winner of the last 3 World Series, always played to the beat of their own drummer, and this time they paid dearly. After completing a solid 2011 season in which they were the clear favorites to repeat as World Series champs, the owner decided to fly the entire team to Bermuda for 2 days of R & R.

The flight plan took them through the Bermuda Triangle where flight control lost contact with the plane, and no one from the team has been heard from since. Following is the last, final exchange between the pilot and ground control:

Pilot: I've lost 3 engines and the temperature controls are malfunctioning! I'm having trouble maintaining altitude!
Ground Control: But we did a thorough equipment check before you debarked. Surely you can't be serious!
Pilot: I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.

In memorial, all baseball stadiums will fly their flags at 1/2 mast for the last month of this season and each team will wear a patch with the Country's logo on their right shoulder during the entire next season.

Their manager, ERISA Dude, was not on the flight. In an odd cost-cutting move, ERISA Dude was at Target buying party favors, and the long lines caused him to miss the flight. He heard the news while arranging a separate flight to Bermuda.

[Yes, this is the end of my log. My Wii hard drive stopped working. I got a new Wii, but my data could not be saved. Thank you to all who read my blog, and a very special thanks to those who thought enough of it to add comments.]

Well, drat. Hate it when stuff like that happens. Sad to see this go; it was a pretty great log you had going.

Thanks, folks. It was definitely fun sharing and being a little creative (though when I see some of the storylines that others put into their logs, I realize how uncreative I really am!)

I will, and I'd expect to start up again before the end of the summer. PowerPros is jow I unwind from my day.

At this point, I am done grieving the loss of my team, which had gone longer (in game years) than any other team of mine. What I really miss now is the PowerPros points I accumulated. I want to play in one of the PowerPros parks, and I'd like to make the purchase that allows me to start each season with extra owner points. I was doing homerun practice to build up some quick points, bought the cheaper suburban park, saw how small it is, and see I need to build up for the more expensive suburban park. (FWIW, I find I'm able to maximize my points on the home run derby by playing Eric Hinski (high EE offense) at the small suburban park)

The homerun derby definitely generates more points per minute than playing exhibition games, but I might also see what points I can generate from playing 3 inning exhibitions against another player with all the settings put on automatic.

Regardless, I already have some thoughts about my next season mode:

    1. Since what I enjoy most, in terms of writing, is analyzing the draft and trades, I'll do more of that, and game reporting will be more like monthly general recaps on the team in general
    2. Since what I enjoy more than making trades is seeing my young players develop, I'll add restrictions on how long I can train up existing players v. Graybar players, but still impose some sort of time limit on training graybar players to give new draft picks a chance to win starting jobs later
    3. If I really stick to #2, I think that'll stop me from becoming a "powerhouse" with easy wins.
    4. I'm not sure whether I'll do an existing team or an expansion team (maybe it'll depend on how long it takes me to get the points to buy a stadium), but if I do an expansion team, I think I'll edit some of the starting free agents (like Great White, Mario Alvarez, Bazardo) or borrow some password players to give myself an OF that averages Ds across the board, a decent starting pitcher and a couple of decent relievers. Maybe a 3b or SS with a C arm. If I play an existing team, I'm thinking of the Giants as a team with OK older players (like Durham) and younger players (like Brian Wilson), but I'd have to practice bunting.

PS - other than our exchanges on this board, the most fun about playing PowerPros other than actually playing the games is to hear my son insist that I wasted my time by not becoming a Major League Baseball player since I do so well in these games! I think I finally got him to see the light after years of these comments by taking him bowling after playing Wii bowling together.

Wow, good thing you traded Ryan Spilborghs before this happened. A note to Erisa Dude: Next time, have a happier ending for your log.
Edit: Erisa, I have a 3rd Baseman with C Arm Strength you could use in your next log. If you want him, I'll PM you the Password. This log was absolutely legendary.

That sucks, sorry to hear that happened. I'll definitely be following when you start your new log.

Love that Airplane! reference. ;)

Sad to see this one end, but excited to see a new one begin.

What D-Tigers said.

I love what you're thinking of doing for your next log. :)
