On another subject, I was watching a movie earlier, and one little part of it struck me as particularly hard to believe. I don't know if I'm just out of touch or not, so I have to ask. Has anyone here not heard of Rush? Whether you like them or not is a whole different question entirely (I know a few people here have some... odd. Musical tastes, but that doesn't matter here), but has anyone actually not heard of them? I would assume the same people who haven't heard of Rush probably wouldn't even have heard of bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones.

On the note of Rush, since I got a bass, I'm pretty much just starting by learning some of the simpler parts of simplified versions of Rush songs (didn't look for simplified versions on purpose, but their easy to find, and I probably wouldn't be able to play any of the normal versions of songs). So far, I've got most of Caravan (can't do the fast bass fills or rapid switching between chords), and I'm looking to maybe learn some of Faithless, since the bass for that sounds good on its own, but I don't know if I'll be able to since it's a bit more complicated (hell, it uses all 4 strings), but if I can't learn it yet, I guess I can always come back to it after more practice with other songs.

I may run out of parts that are simple enough at some point and try learning whole songs if I can find any songs that are both good and easy.

Yes, I have heard of Rush. No, I don't agree that people who haven't heard of them also haven't heard of the Beatles or Rolling Stones.

I guess I can almost see that, but only because The Beatles are arguably a different genre and The Rolling Stones have a popular magazine named after them. Well, I guess they'd be from different countries too, but that didn't seem to make a difference for Rush.

Hm, I never really paid any attention to charts and such, but I suppose that makes sense. And I think Rush is one of the bands that most people have probably heard a song of even if they didn't know it was Rush, and The Beatles are more of a band that you hear the name of more. That's just my own personal experience though, I probably heard parts of La Villa Strangiato 50 times before I knew what it was called or that it was a Rush song, where I heard the name of The Beatles hundreds of times before I decided to actually listen to any of their songs.

Anyway, another topic change for me here (I'm going through these too fast, but feel free to reply to all of the topics I've went through at once in the same post if you're late and you actually wanted to respond to the topic)... Does anyone watch lists like top ten video game lists or anything? I usually only watch them when I really don't feel like doing anything and can't find anything else to watch, but I do find them kind of fun to watch occasionally. I'm just wondering because it would be possible for me to make lists like that if there was any interest.

I'd have to see interest because I don't want to put a bunch of effort into a video and see it get one view in over a week (and the one view is me viewing it), like the last video I made (last video had that view count, but not much effort into it so that one wasn't a big deal). If I was to do lists I would probably make the lists themselves smaller, something like top 3 lists, because I don't play a lot of different video games compared to other people who spend as much time as I do with video games (I tended to replay the same games, it saved money, and if they were still fun, why not?), and I could give more detailed reasoning for all selections. Only idea I have in mind right now is a Top 3 for video game soundtracks, I would just need to think of what I could put for third. First and second are pretty much locked in to me, but there are several worthy candidates for third place.

Putting the Beatles/Rolling Stones on Rush's level for commercial exposure is silly. I bet the majority of the kids in my school have heard of the former two but not Rush. I agree with you that most people have probably heard a Rush song without knowing who it's by, like Tom Sawyer or something.

I've heard of and like Rush, though I don't know that many of their songs. Probably 5-6. And I'd watch that video.

Also, has anyone here ever donated to the site? Just wondering, remembered about that feature when I saw it today. Also, question for DarkShade: what is done with the money that is donated? Is it just profit for you? Or does it benefit the site somehow? Just curious...

That's probably true, although as a Rush fan I find it hard to imagine what people who don't know them would hear.

If I had to make a top 5 list like that it would probably be:

1. Tom Sawyer
2. La Villa Strangiato
3. Limelight
4. 2112
5. YYZ

3 of which are from Moving Pictures, which makes it kind of easy to tell why that's their most popular album.
Also, it feels like a crime for me to not have Working Man on that list, but I have no idea what I would take out to put it there.

For some reason I didn't really care too much for most of Rush's newer songs until I saw them in concert, now I really like most of the new ones.
