The only time I actually save and reload is before games. I don't go for maxed out players, but they need that game experience.

I go to work early and get home late so I try to get it over with as quickly as possible. Plus I like building a guy in season mode and if he's maxed, there's nothing to strive for.

I quit:
When injury strikes
When I fail success mode!
When I fail Dr goodjob surgery
After I have two bad events in a row
When Dad trains with me but I have no challenge card
When I have the original pitch but it has been 3 weeks or more since he last trained with me
When I have a bad game 0-4, 3 or more runs......

I agree if I max him then I basically have just conquered success mode and the player takes a lot of fun out of the game. I do import perfecto players and put them on a team of their own. That way when a friend comes over he gets an advantage on me with that team.

In my first success mode playthrough I saved and reloaded a ton. The game took forever and my player turned out decent enough but i think the saving and reloading takes the fun out of it.

I just charge through now since the game is so short using shortcut mode. I try all kinds of strategies and just have a blast. The game seems to reward you with some pretty nice abilities/gifts if you struggle through a less than fortunate beginning to the game.

When I was learning success mode, I started out not knowing about the save/reload thing; after my first few characters, I used it almost every turn, I was so scared of messing something up.

Now I generally save/reload every 3 turns or so, when it's a player that I need to spend time on, like a starting fielder or pitcher on my custom team. If it's a reliever or AAA backup, I've been trying to run it all the way through, with only 3 or 4 saves per run.

I've seen the maxed out players on here, and it's definitely impressive (I love the idea of getting a maxed out pitcher/hitter; I think I might make a Willy after my team is done), but coming out of success mode with a flaw or two definitely makes your guy more like the rest of the league.
