Well you just have to hit the ball on the first pitch, which isn't hard. But does it help at all?

It helps if the game is computer controlled, cause it makes the guy good at hitting the first pitch. It probably improves his contact zone for the first pitch of every at-bat.

Yes.

It's not hard to avoid in Success Mode, it just takes a little self-restraint (always take the first strike).
