In the future you can probably get the Internet tattooed onto you. I'll get that along with a flying solar powered motercycle on a road trip to Mars.

Some tatto's look cool, but I think most look kind of ugly.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was looking at tattoo's with my sister, before she got hers. It took her almost a year before she found one she liked. And her inspiration came from my grandma's house, when she wasn't even trying to find one.

I'm pretty sure I would never get a tattoo. Even if it's meaningful, will I even believe in what it means later on?

It's a bible quote that my grandma has on a plaque in her house... I can't remember what it says right now.

Jewish folks can't get tattoos or piercings or anything of the sort. Nor can they be cremated.

Think of your prospective tattoo as you would your all-time favorite book. At one point in your life, your favorite book was Goodnight Moon. You probably read that book (or had it read to you) 100 times. You identified with it. It was who you were. Then it was Where the Wild Things Are, which steers you toward Shel Silverstein followed by adolescent mystery novels. Then you read Where the Red Fern Grows and you loved it. You discussed the book with a friend on the bus one day and she turned you on to the good stuff - Harry Potter, J.R. Tolkien and the old Stephen King thrillers. Maybe one of the classic literature novels from school blew your mind - The Great Gatsby probably - so you explored the Modern Library list of 100 Best Novels, and Catch-22 hits your square in the soul. "I will never love another book as much as I love Catch-22!" you said. So you got the name "Yossarian" tattooed on your shoulder. That's all well and good for about five years . . . and then you read Ulysses. "Crap! Now what am I supposed to do! Get "Dedalus" tattooed on my other shoulder?"

I don't know. Do you? Because you can bet your life that in another five years you will have moved onto something else, and something else, and something else, and etc.
