Really, I have no problem with it. Any other request I'll put in. I was simply trying to lower it quickly so that it would be in more managable bites after a few complaints of it being too much.

Let me know if you want detailed info on these guys. I have the Rob Neyer & Bill James historical guide to pitchers.

For example, Walter Johnson threw sidearm and had a two-pitch arsenal: 1. fastball and 2. curve. His fastball was the fastest and the best of his era and his sidearm motion probably created good movement, while his curve was something he picked up later in his career and never mastered - it was below average and had minimal break.

Chesbro was a classic spitballer. That's literally all he threw. Not sure what pitch you would use to replicate a spitball, but he threw it from a 3/4 arm slot, held it like a curve, and had full control over both the direction and degree of drop, anywhere from 2 to 18 inches. Maybe Shutto spin applied to two different curves and a slurve? I don't know.

I'm not sure either. Last year it would be much easiar to do it as you could get multiple visits by your dad, making the pitch break more each time, move more each time, or whatever the option was. Now the original pitch is the same as the one its based on, its barely different. Plus you can only choose a few pitches to base it on.
Any imformation on any of these guys would be great mate, I appreciate it.

a spitball is a fast knuckleball. Last year you could have upgraded the knuckleball to be faster (see rsoohoo) and called it a spitball. But this year...

And this year you can't uprgrade pitches more then once. It has very similar movement, but its not quite that as obviously there are different techniques. I'm not exactly a spit-ball expert or anything, but I believe its more complicated then that.

He has an outside chance, but I don't think so. Your making me want to vote for him haha.

I've seen some guys, maybe Neyer, say that Johnson's fastball may have been the fastest of his era but it might also have only been in the low 90s. When everyone is throwing 80-85 and you're throwing 92 it seems a lot more explosive than it really is. I guess if you were to make him you'd have to choose between making him accurately or making him the dominant guy he was. If he's only throwing 92 he won't be, not with just two pitches. If you give him 103 MPH heat then that's another story but it arguably wouldn't be accurate.

I'd say mid-high 90s would be. I need to put up the poll, but I have too much homework to find all the stats. I'll just direct them to the most recent pages.

There is something very screwed up about the poll, no matter what I do it starts putting in random options from other polls here and doubling names. I've tried for like 20 minutes to fix it but I've given up. I'm making a temporary thread for this.

Christy Mathewson is one of the greatest pitchers of all time. Period.

Yes, he is a hall of famer, and all of them are. I'm not trying to disagree with you, but what are your reasons? I mean its pretty hard to make a good argument when all you say is that this player is one of the best haha.

Shouldn't we talk about the 19th Century Era (1876-1900) first? I know that it would hard beacause stats weren't as in-depth and stuff like that. This is of course whether we do the eras in order:

19th Century Era (1876-1900)
Deadball Era (1901-1919)
Lively Ball Era (1920-1941)
Integration Era (1942-1960)
Expansion Era (1961-1976)
Free Agency Era (1977- 1993)
Long Ball Era (1994- 2005)
OR if you go by these:

The Early Years (1845-1900)
The Dead-Ball Era (1901-1919)
Baseball Between the Wars (1920-1941)
The War Years (1942-1945)
Baseball in Transition (1946-1960)
Owner-Managed Growth (1961-1975)
The Free-Agent Era (1976-present)

Nah, I think everyone should be judged at once after the deadball era. Which reminds me, here is a link to a new thread with the poll: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1951

Hey, sorry I haven't been on so long. I don't expect to be nearly as active as I was before, but I need to get this thing done. With the exception of the rest of the starting pitchers, I need to choose everything else right now without voting so I can get that stuff all out of the way. I have recently made the first player, Lou Gherig, although we may want to redo him. I wasn't making him for this site originally but for my team, and then I stupidly realized we need him. He has A power, B Contact, C fielding for all 3 types (maybe it should be all B's, by the time he was in his late 20s he was a Gold Glover). He also only has a few abilities, most importantly of which are Durability 4 (the most durable player to ever play the game, he had over 6 broken bones during his career but he never stopped playing. He never realized untill he was being looked at for ASL), Concistency 4, and Power Hitter. I also got him rally hitter (accurate) and clutch 4 (should definetly be 5). Is it worth re-making him?
I will figure out all the changes and decisions today so we can determine stats for each player right away. And by the way Smiley Face, I know you changed your vote for the pitchers, sorry mate haha. Still, I've decided that we should just make all three, Walter Johnson, Ed Walsh, and Mathewson, ok? I've also decided to overule the third-basemen vote and make Schmidt the main third-basemen as I've had a change of heart and I think it should only be in-active players.
I'm now deciding what year to base Lou Gherig on if we keep him and what his look is.
