Nope, were just deciding stats for players now. Should probably change the title. I'll probably do Lou Gherig, and I need someone for Ty Cobb. I'll make a list of Cobbs abilitys again. Tell me what you think.
Trajectory: 1, maybe 2
Contact: A (Maxed)
Power: Mid-High Ds or Very low Cs, creators choice
Speed: A (Maxed)
Fielding: A- 14
Arm Strength: A- or B+ or Maxed (really not sure)
Error Resistance: A- or B+ or Maxed (really not sure)
I don't want all maxed because although he was an excellent fielder, he wasn't the best fielder of all time (was he? Again, I'm a little grey in this area, I know more about his hitting).
Abilities (I need the game in front of me to see them all. I'll use the wiki later to go through, I'm in a hurry right now).
Intimidator, Base Running 4, Stealing 4, Infield Hitter, Bunter, Line Drive Hitter (if we know how to get it now), contact hitter, spray hitter, Tough Runner, Refined, Gold Glover, Cannon Arm, Spider Catch?, all other outfield abilities if I'm missing any.
Anything to add or anyone want to help me define the fielding abilities?

Give him A- for Arm strenght, and B+ for Error Resistance.

I might be able to do him later on, but I doubt it. I am working on Charlie Zink (Knuckler for Sox) right now.

Breakup Double Play would fit, definitely, but do we know how to get it?

So here are his final stats
Ty Cobb:
Trajectory: 1-2 (Creators Choice)
Contact: A (Maxed)
Power: Mid Ds-Very low Cs (Creators Choice)
Speed: A (Maxed)
Fielding: A- 14
Arm Strength: A-
Error Resistance: B+
Intimidator, Base Running 4, Stealing 4, Infield Hitter, Bunter, Line Drive Hitter (if we know how to get it now), Contact Hitter, Spray Hitter, Tough Runner, Refined, Gold Glover, Cannon Arm, Spider Catch, Slap Hitter, Break Up Double Play,

Now let's do Babe Ruth:
Trajectory: 4, this guy hit 500 footers all the time
Power: Maxed
Contact: A- or Maxed (did hit 342 in his career)
Speed: C
Fielding: B
Arm Strength: B
Error Resistance: B
Abilities:
Practically everything. I'll make a list of this later, I'm in a rush. Basically everything but line drive hitter, Break Up Double Play, infield abilities, Golden Glove, infield hitter, bunter. He did have the highest non-steroid, post-1900 On Base Percentage, once getting around 650.

I'm sure that it was Ted Williams... but anyway, yeah, Babe Ruth was probably the greatest non-steroid player ever.

I would make the fielding stats B- (12) except for arm strength (13). I don't think he was THAT good at fielding. I might even suggest to lower fielding to C+ (11). Then again, this is the hall-of-fame team...

This is probably the wrong time to post this, but I'll say it anyway. Determining stats for Walter Johnson will be really, really, hard. He had no pitch except for a fastball for 10 years. Even if we give him a 105 mph fastball, even if we give him a level 3 2SFB and a level 7 SIFB(which I think we should), even if we give him a level 7 CB (which would be unrealistic), he would still get shelled. We will probably have to "invent" pitches for him - H-SNK would make sense, probably CCHG or something like that, and also a cutter. All of these pitches (SIFB, 2SFB, CUT, CB, CCHG, H-SNK) should be maxed, and he should have every single ability. He should get Gyroball, not Intimidator (unless we can get both). He was not intimidating, as a matter of fact he was afraid that he would kill somebody with his fastball, so he never threw inside.

Wait, no your right. Babe Ruth had something like the second, third, and fourth (or maybe Williams had the fourth also and Ruth the fifth). He's the greatest player steorids or not, even if Bond's stats were legitimate. I think that sounds good for Johnson, you can take care of him, I hardly know anything about him.

Naw, I can't make anybody THAT good, I can't even get Gyroball! Let it be Smileyfaces or MrWelz or somebody. I can just determine stats.

Haha, that's what I meant. I might try him to, I can usually make great guys, not quite as good as smiley or welz, but I can usually make Cy-Young Hall-Of-Fame type pitchers. I just can't make Babe Ruths and Sandy Koufaxes like them haha. Walter Johnson is a notch down from those guys obviously, so I might give him a crack. Still, I need you to determine the stats.

Though I am have been playing MLPBB 07 and 08 for some time, I am brand new to the forums and I have found this the most interesting link on here so far. I wanted to comment about Ty Cobb and his stats listed on a previous post. I have to say that Cobb had a little power and a decent arm, but he was by no means a gold glover, a great fielder or very error resistant.

I always imagined an 'A' statistic meant you were the very best in the game for purposes of playing MLBPP. This post has 25 pages now, but I am going back to the original thread which is about 'Stats for Ty Cobb'.

But back to Cobb, I wouldn't include cannon arm or gold glover for making him because he did make quite a few errors (and throwing errors count still as errors, not just fielding) and wasn't known for an awesome arm. (though he was an outfielder) And for his fielding and error resistance I would think he would have a 'C' or so for both and if you were convinced his arm was above average give him a B- or C+ for that.

And though this is only my opinion, here are some stats to back it up:

Ty Cobb, 3035 games played, 268 errors
Roberto Clemente, 2433 games played, 140 errors
Willie Mays, 2992 games played, 140 errors

Just using stats, if we make Mays an 'A' and Clemente a 'B' (less games played), then I would think Cobb would be a 'C' or maybe even a 'D' if you didn't like him that much.

Anyways, thanks to this forum a lot of guys I wanted to recreate are much better in Success Mode. I want to thank everyone for teaching me how to do Success Mode as a smarter player and have even more fun with the game.

Welcome to the site, and thanks for the compliment. The reason Ty Cobb is in the title is because every time I move on to something else, I change the title. It used to be voting on Shortstop, Third Base, ect.

Anyway, that's very valuable information, I'm surprised we all missed it and assumed he was a good fielder. It does fit in the whole profile of a slicing and dicing lead-off speedster hall-of-famer haha. I agree with you. The new stats:
Ty Cobb:
Trajectory: 1-2 (Creators Choice)
Contact: A (Maxed)
Power: Mid Ds-Very low Cs (Creators Choice)
Speed: A (Maxed)
Fielding: C 10
Arm Strength: C+ (11) -> B- (12)
Error Resistance: C 10
Intimidator, Base Running 4, Stealing 4, Infield Hitter, Bunter, Line Drive Hitter (if we know how to get it now), Contact Hitter, Spray Hitter, Tough Runner, Refined, Slap Hitter, Break Up Double Play,

What guys have you recreated? If there stats are close enough, would you mind if we use them? We don't have anyone done yet (I'll try to get Lou Gherig out of the way by Friday or Saturday, because if I don't, I can't till two weeks from Monday.)

It's been so long and we're yet to have a player done. I just don't see this getting done by Power Pros 09 coming out, or if so, only barely before where its useless. Yet we've done so much work already that I don't want to abandon this, but rather start it again for the 09 Power pros.
