"The first game is today, Jack." said my answering machine.
"Shoot, I totally forgot!"
I rushed down to the stadium to see that everyone was there, practicing, and generally having a good time.

Hopefully we'll start this season off good, with a win. Luckily, we'll be playing the BayStars, who leave a little to be desired. (They finished in last place, last year). But I shouldn't say that, never underestimate your opponents!

March 26

Hanshin Tigers - 5 (1-0)
Yokohama BayStars - 0 (0-1)
(In Japan the home team is listed first)

Tigers:

Lineup:
1. Takashi Toritani - SS (1-4, HR in 5th)
2. Matt Murton - CF (2-4, HR in 8th)
3. Craig Brazell - 1B (1-3, HR in 3rd, sac fly)
- Kentaro Sekimoto - PR to 1B
4. Tomoaki Kanemoto - LF (1-4)
5. Takahiro Arai - 3B (1-4, HR in 2nd)
6. Kenji Johjima - C (1-4, HR in 2nd)
7. Keisuke Kanoh - RF (1-3)
8. Keiichi Hirano - 2B (1-3)
9. PITCHER (Atsushi Nohmi - 0-1, 2 sac bunts)

Pitchers:
Atsushi Nohmi - W (1-0) (9 innings, 0 runs)

BayStars:

1. Shingo Nonaka - SS (1-4)
2. Daisuke Hayakawa - CF (0-4)
3. Seiichi Uchikawa - 1B (0-4)
4. Shuichi Murata - 3B (2-3, walk in 4th)
5. Terrmel Sledge - LF (0-4)
6. José Castillo - 2B (1-4)
7. Yuki Yoshimura - RF (1-3, double in 9th)
8.Tasuku Hashimoto - C (0-3)
9. PITCHER (Daisuke Miura - 0-1, sac bunt in 5th)
- Takahiro Saeki - PH

Pitchers:
Daisuke Miura - L (0-1) (6 innings, 4 runs, 4 earned runs)
Hiroki Sanada (2 innings, 1 run, 1 earned run)

MVP(s):
Atsushi Nohmi - 9 inning, 5 hit shutout
Takahiro Arai - Homerun in 2nd inning to give the Tigers the lead.

Summary (I'll be doing this in a newspaper style):
Nishinomiya Sports
Nohmi goes the distance, in Tigers 5-0 win!

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo -
Image

Atsushi Nohmi, Tigers, goes 9 innings in the Tigers blowout win, 5-0. Every run scored in this game was by a homerun. Takahiro Arai, Kenji Johjima, Craig Brazell, Takashi Toritani, and Matt Murton all went yard in yesterday's game. We talked to new GM, Jack Allen, about how he feels winning his first game as GM. He said "Well, it just feels great to get rid of those 1st game jitters, and I'm sure this is the case with everyone else as well. I think that I'm going to like it here in Japan." Well, Mr. Allen, we here in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo, are going to like you too. The BayStars on the other hand struggled to get anything going, with a double in the 9th by outfielder Yuki Yoshimura it looked like they could eliminate Nohmi's chance for a shutout. Though the next batter, catcher Tasuku Hashimoto, flew out to the left fielder. We hope to see more of this from our hometown team, maybe this year, will be the year.

- Takaharu Sonoda

How was that? Do you like it? :)

Very nice, smooth summary. Good start!

Just as an aside, could you tell us some of the ability ratings of the players? i.e. what's Matt Murton's ratings?

Wow, I just noticed this comment, but anyways yes Matt Murton's on the Tigers
I wasn't aware he was on the Cubs before....
And yes, the curse, you Cubs fans know it quite well, and so did us Red Sox fans, until 2004, that year was awesome! :DD

LOL @ Johjima's fielding ratings. A,B,B, wow...

I'd like to be Takashi Toritani's agent.

Anyway, you need to get some better pitchers (especially groundball pitchers since your outfield defense is shoddy)

Yes this is true, the Tigers do have a horrendous pitching staff, BUT they have an excellent closer, I'm planning on getting some pitchers soon.

And alright, you can be Toritani's agent.

Well, since he's such an excellent closer, I will be Fujikawa's agent.

Nishinomiya Sports
April 5

2 New additions!

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo - Today, April 5, marks the addition of two new faces to the Tigers franchise, rookie Kazuteru Tani (18) who was a power threat in high school, and at the Koshien, and somewhat-seasoned Andy Williams (29, who goes by Andy) from America, we hope to see these new faces enhance the franchise, and make this new Tigers team, under Jack Allen, a good one. Summary:
Nishinomiya Sports
April 6

Tigers win a close one, walk off in 12!
Image - Matt Murton

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo - The Tigers win a close one today in a 13-12 win in 12 innings. Now, neither team's pitching performed up to par today, neither starter went more then 5 innings. And well from the start, it was going to be a close, high-scoring game. Ogasawara started it all off with a 2-run shot to right in the top of the 1st, followed by a 2-run homer by good old Craig in the bottom half of the 1st. 2-2. Both teams periodically scored, and in the 9th, Tigers up 12-9, Fujikawa came in. And he blows it! He let's up a single, then a homerun, then another homerun. A rarity to see one of the best closers here in Japan blow a save! His first this season. We talked to him about this after the game, he said "Well, I don't really know what happened, I guess I just never had a good grip on the ball. But, at least we won the game in the end, thanks to Kentaro." Also today was the debut for both rookies, Andy, and Tani. We tried to get a wor din with Andy, but couldn't. He went an inning and a third without letting up any runs. We spoke to Tani in the locker room about how it felt to hit a homerun in his first Major League game. He stated "Man, I've got to say, it was awesome. I never would have imagined hitting a homerun in my first game. And the fans, they're great here. I felt very much at home whenever I stepped up to bat. This is going to be an excellent experience." Tani went 2-5 with a homerun, an RBI, and a walk. Both Tani and Andy look like they're going to help this team immensely.

- Takaharu Sonoda

Wow, this is great! Everyone here in Hyōgo is supporting us. Maybe we will win it all this year! We just have to take first for ourselves, and break the 3-way tie between us, the Dragons, and the Giants. We can do this!
